What is your average license fee this year? What was it last year?

Recommended Posts

It seems like many folks are thankfully still reporting $$$ license fees, but also many for $ or even <$, so I'm curious, what is your average license fee this year? And what was it last year?

Mine -  2021:  $40.53

             2022:  $17.70

Thanks.

Hiya, I don't really want to look. But here goes....

2017 $24.6 (14 licenses)

2018 $20.5 (51 licenses)

2019 $15.2 (51 licenses)

2020 $12.4 (69 licenses)

2021 $16.8 (106 licenses)

2022 $12.73 (160 licenses)

p.s, went back a few years for curiosity

p.p.s. not sure how much you can read into such a small collection, my initial years had very few sales.

p.p.p.s. I'm opted into everything

anecdotally - I am seeing many more (over half really) sub $2 sales now, these were very unusual when I started out in 2015-2016. Might be a function of my subject matter though as well.

2021 - $15.35      68 sales

2022 - $8.75.       96 sales so far. So not good revenue!

I opted out of novel use in April, and out of distribution to some countries. (E.g. China).

I didn't want to look either, but curiosity got the better of me, so here it goes.

2020 - $82   24 sales

2021 - $43   24 sales

2022 - $52   38 sales

(2020 was kind of an anomaly because of a large book cover sale which I never found) 😪

For some reason, my average price is holding up fairly well. A bigger concern for me is the new commission structure, which really puts a dent in net revenue. I never dreamed that stock agencies, especially Alamy, would take more than 50% from contributors. How naive I was... 🙄

2007 $439(1 sale!)

2008 $62

2009 $92

2010 $92

2011 $62

2012 $62

2013 $50

2014 $68

2015 $42

2016 $36

2017 $32

2018 $40

2019 $33

2020 $27

2021 $35

2022 $28

Out of novel from a long time, and seriously limited distributors in April. Still too many too low fees!

Biggest issue is commission thievery... totally unethical to take more than 50%  and as for the pittance we get on distributors 😒
