aphperspective
Wondering is the general consensus to opt in or out of distributor sales. Andy
Colblimp
I'm out - 30% of not a lot isn't very much at all!
Craig Yates
I stay opted in, and accept any low fees on the basis that any sale adds weight to your overall ALAMY ranking. Craig
NYCat
I have had a few good prices so I stay in. I figure the low ones only hurt my pride. Paulette
Stokie
I'm in - 30% of something is better than 100% of nothing. John.
KevinS
Out. 50% for taking, processing and posting a photo is what I want. I was in for couple years and won't miss the revenue from the distributors.
DDoug
I was out for a while last year, then opted back in (which can be done throughout the year, not only in April).
York Photographer
I'm out! I'm not interested in subsidising eastern european newspapers, for less than the price of a mars bar! Especially when they're poorly reported and heavily ripped off.
Bryan
I'm in and intend to stay that way. In my experience the peanut priced deals are outweighed by more reasonable sales; although it does hurt when the commission cuts in. In this bleak month to date I've only had 5 sales of which 3 are distributors.
Colin Woods
In. Yes there are low prices, but last month I had a $165 sale via distribution.
Reimar
I'm in. Why not? Non-distributor fees can be very low too. Out of 14 sales so far this month, my three distributor sales (gross) were: $142, $51 and $8. Not far different from regular sales (although I get 20% less). Not worth throwing away though. Broad Norfolk
In. Only two distributor sales so far this year. Regarding my Stock portfolios, I'll take income from wherever it comes. But still disappointed at the 'net' result as it's the contributor who always seems to lose out. In the long term it reminds me of the saying, 'Don't kill the goose that lays the golden egg'. However, all supply and demand in a saturated market! Jim
John Mitchell
I'm in. Definitely don't want to lose a good 20% of my income, especially these days.
MandyD
$ is $...why wouldn't you opt in? with so much competition, it's not like you are punishing anyone for not being able to use your image...and if it helps with your ranking, which leads to more sales.... losdemas
Half in, half out! I remain opted in to around half of the markets available. Eastern Europe is a strictly no-go area for me!
aphperspective
That's interesting for a quick straw poll 10 for and 3 against. I only asked as a newbie here trying to get all the help possible when starting out. Andy.
Abiyoyo
I am in. Several $$$ sales came from distributor sales.
Joseph Clemson
IN. Though it doesn't impact me much as I'm UK based with no overseas images and so only occasionally do I license something through a distributor.

Phil
Opted out earlier this month. Small US portfolio with no distributor sales so far. Image prices are already too low and distributor sales take too large a percentage cut. If portfolio was larger and/or diversified with non-US images I might consider it in future. Otherwise Alamy's web site is available world-wide.
aphperspective
Thanks for all the "votes" it would appear that the vast majority feel opt in is more advantageous. Andy.

Not sure about now but in the past, the price of the sale was also taken into account for ranking. So it could be a double-edge sword. BTW, I am IN.
