Bryan
You're a hard act to follow Wim, but I'll do what I can. You can interpret the title literally, hardware that crosses obstacles, or the use of said kit to frame a composition, or you may wish to think more widely of a bridge as a connection between people or events. Back to the physical, various stringed instruments use a bridge as a part of their construction. So there are plenty of opportunities. The usual rules apply. You should submit a maximum of three photos that must be taken from your Alamy collection. The closing date has been changed and will be midnight GMT on Saturday 24th June. Here are some examples, I look forward to seeing some rather more imaginative interpretations of the subject. gvallee
Railway bridge over the Interconnection Channel at Menindee Lakes lookout, New South Wales, Australia Historical Savannahlander train going over Einasleigh Bridge, Queensland, Australia I was a passenger on this train and as a matter of fact, the train broke down just after the bridge. How did I take the pic then you ask? The train goes over the bridge, lets the passengers who wants to take pics off, reverses, and goes again. MDM
I've not entered one of these competitions in a long time but I do like bridges so here is a selection from my collection. Bryan will recognise this place. If there is one city that is really great for bridge photography it's Newcastle upon Tyne. This was taken in another Newcastle - this time a small village in County Tipperary, Ireland. The bridge is over the River Suir (pronounced sure not sewer which is probably more appropriate for many of the English rivers these days (it's true). wiskerke
Great challenge! Amsterdam Prinsengracht or Princes Canal. Same Prinsengracht Canal. This is the third bridge in the first image. King's Day. Amsterdam Magere Brug or Skinny Bridge over the river Amstel. In Dutch we have a word for people doing what those people are doing: just hanging over a bridge railing doing nothing: baliekluivers (literally handrail biters). It's a synonym for idler or good-for-nothing. First found in 1860 it's a bit old fashioned, but still in use and most (63% in 2013) Dutch will understand it's meaning. wim 2
spacecadet
A very tall order to choose just three out of over 600! Luxembourg cathedral seen through an arch of the Adolphe Bridge, designed by Paul Séjourné, 1900-03 Ballachulish Bridge, by W.A. Fairhurst & Partners, 1975, Glencoe At first blush this pic looks a bit light but it reflects (haha) the crystal clarity of that September morning. That's my excuse anyway.
