August Challenge - NEWS

Colblimp

Recommended Posts

Thanks for giving me the chance to set the subject, even though the other July pictures were so much better than mine!  I've decided on NEWS as the subject as everyone has news photos and it's a nice, broad subject.  Any News pics are acceptable, they don't have to have been published.

A limit of 3 of your Alamy images per contestant. The deadline will be 31August at midnight BST. I will choose 8 finalists and set up the poll if I can find how to do it, I may need a bit of help on that one!  Here's some examples...  GOOD LUCK!!!

I have not done "NEWS" pics, at least not loaded to Alamy through the news channel.

Does this mean I cannot enter any pics that could be classed as "NEWS"?

I would like to know more about the parameters too. The only pics I have ever sent to Live News were of a demonstration against elephant and rhino poaching and the shots are not particularly interesting, in my opinion. I do have many shots relating to that subject though. The Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, for instance, could be used in an article on the "news" of elephant poaching. I have a lot of images that can (and have been, I think) used in articles about global warming because I have polar bears with scant ice. I think it is an excellent subject for the challenge and I'm sure the regular news reporters have some great stuff.

News or could be news is perfectly acceptable, as is pics which you think are newsy.  Let's see what you've got!  Great pics so far, it's going to be extremely difficult to choose the final 8.

Two nice images from my old home town.

Just trying to work out where you were standing when you took the tall ships photo. I do not recall any structures that would have been tall enough to get the angle across the pier.

elsinore-denmark-27th-november-2015-an-u

In autumn 2015 an unknown artist placed a number of mysterious hand sculptures in copper at obscure places in the harbour area of Elsinore / Helsingør, as a message. One night all fingers except the middle finger was cut off a hand reaching for a grip on the harbour railing. This particular sculpture is situated at the Culture Yard close to Kronborg Castle. According to a local newspaper the unknown street artist considered this anonymous nightly misdeed only to improve his work and strengthen his message to the Danish people.

Yes, I am aware of the arguments. It's James Craig Page who organises this event in Dunbar. No beaches were spoiled in the taking of that photo :)

Just along from the Bungalow cafe Allan, the main road is way higher than the beach. They've done up the seafront recently, all very tasteful using natural materials, bits of driftwood etc. You probably wouldn't recognise it. However, if your passport is up to date, we'll let you back in to take a look. ;)

You must have been using a long lens then?

I was in Sunderland about 10years ago for my mothers funeral and took the opportunity for a quick look around, it certainly has changed.

While there I renewed my passport for another 50 years, being a bit optimistic considering my age.;)

I don't have any real news photos but I'll try anyway.

The extreme heat and drought in many areas all over the world in the summer of 2018 has caused a large number of wildfires in Denmark as well. Here Randbol Heath after 800 hectares burned.

The drought has also resulted in the poorest crop yield since the 1950s.
