CarlMillerPhotos 24 Posted January 11, 2017 I'm just getting to where I'm starting to see sales in the last 5 months or so. Had my very first sale in August, and have been averaging about one-a-month since then. I've been a member of Alamy for a while, but only recently started really uploading. I was initially intimidated by the QC process, and also by the talent.

Niels Quist 595 Posted January 12, 2017 (edited) First sale on January 5th - piece of Danish architecture - travel guide - 60 bucks. Since then only one minor distributor sale. Sale sure has its seasons - and beginning of January is not one of them. Edited January 12, 2017 by Niels Quist
TeeCee 1,301 Posted January 12, 2017 Wow Nice!! Congrats Any Advice for a newbie? First things first - get through the initial QC vetting - until you've done that you can't upload anything, and consequently can't sell. The full spiel is here http://www.alamy.com/contributor/how-to-sell-images/guidelines-for-submitting-images/ However, make sure they're straightforward (avoid "arty") stuff, from a camera of at least 6 megapixel, and minimum of 17 mb uncompressed. View them at pixel size (100%) to make certain they are technically perfect. This isn't the time to impress people with your talents, QC aren't concerned with that, their concern is entirely on the quality of the image you produce. Once you're through QC - regularly produce lots and lots of high quality images, keyword and caption them well, sit back and enjoy!
Ed Rooney 2,107 Posted January 12, 2017 I've had three 2017 sales so far: $95 on the 3rd, $38 on the 10th, and $17.43 today.
Colin Woods 538 Posted January 12, 2017 January so far is pretty good for me, with a nice sale of $185 yesterday and a total of $225 so far today. I'm happy with that as normally January is a pretty poor month for me.
John Mitchell 3,200 Posted January 12, 2017 Four 4 me so far, ranging from $30 to $120, all older, repeat sellers. I've had both really good and really bad January's in the past.
mickfly 388 Posted January 13, 2017 (edited) Two for me so far 4th and 9th a three figure front cover of a small format UK magazine and a forced licence from an infringer of $36. Hope the graphs keep going up for us all in 2017. Edit: German magazine sale today also 3 figures. Edited January 13, 2017 by mickfly
Stokie 542 Posted January 13, 2017 I've only had 2 - a $51 distributor sale and one today for $13.99, so only $22 net. I've been with Alamy for 10 years and January is the worst month for sales, with May being the best. John.
Allan Bell 1,682 Posted January 13, 2017 I had two distributor sales today for $45.21 each. Net of $13.57 each. Oh! By the way I have PU restrictions on ALL my images so how come the distributor sales? See my other thread here. Allan

See my other thread here. Allan Sometimes, but not very often, the date given in the Summary is correct. You can be certain that the date of choosing your image has been earlier. Maybe a day in case of a newspaper; a month or two in case of a magazine; up to one or one and a half year for a calendar. And that's all for us pretty organized countries. wim

Stephen Lloyd 23 Posted January 16, 2017 Three so far, all low amounts. That's three times last January in numbers and 2016 was my best year in terms of sold images - but not revenue. THe days of $7,000 dollar sales seem past! I hopt not though!
Colblimp 1,304 Posted January 17, 2017 I'm envious of you all, I've had nothing since November. I know I'm a newbie but at this stage I'm starting to think I'm doing something wrong. Oh well, just keep plodding away I suppose.
JohnB 74 Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) First sale of this year was on the 6th. It was a picture of a tadpole. I've had eight sales so far this year mostly relating to zooms in the last few months of last year. So far this year I've had only 1 zoom (new search engine ??). That might just be due to statistical fluctuation or the holidays. If it's down to search engine I'm wondering where future sales will come from. (not panicking yet). Dave Richards 37 Posted January 18, 2017 (edited) To Colblimp - If it helps, I see that the majority of your pictures are in landscape format. You may find things improve if you shoot more in portrait with copy space. I'm no expert, but have only sold a few and most of them have been in portrait. One sold yesterday for $47, in portrait with copy space. Edited January 18, 2017 by Dave Richards

Arletta 366 Posted January 19, 2017 I was surprised to see a first sale of the year so early, 02 January 2017, DEE1BJ. Good start, let's hope it's a good year...
chrumu 292 Posted January 22, 2017 (edited) That was my first sale of the year, two weeks ago. Sold twice on the same day via a distributor, but no refund yet. At least the license fees received suffice for the parking fee and a small lunch (but not for the fuel, gondola ticket, or any other expenses of the day). Edit: Regarding horizontal/vertical: 85% of my pictures and 100% of my sales are horizontal. Edited January 22, 2017 by chrumu
