I was thinking of some of my favorite places I've taken photographs and a lot of them were small towns. So my challenge is Small Town Life. You can include people or not--what I have in mind is photos that capture something about the character of the particular town. Three entries per person and the photos must be on Alamy. Here are my examples with the town and the population--I'm thinking <10,000. Have fun!! I can't wait to see everyone's entries and travel the world through your photos. Brienz, Switzerland (population 3,090) Lavertezzo, Switzerland (population 1,227) Sachseln, Switzerland (population 4,597) Rockport, Massachusetts (population 7,322) Yvoire, France (population 953--far exceeded by the number of tourists!) Bryan Posted July 10, 2021 Share Posted July 10, 2021 (edited) We live in Washington UK, the home of George's ancestors. While the town has expanded, and now includes the Nissan car plant etc, the original Washington Village retains its charm. 1) The little library closed a few years ago to re-emerge as a florists/gift shop and tea room. The tea room has come into its own during the pandemic. We cycled past yesterday and witnessed loads of folk sitting outside. 2) The village competes in the Northumbria in Bloom competition, here are some volunteers working in one of the flower beds 3) Not without success. The inset on the sign depicts Washington Old Hall, reputed to be the ancestral home of George's family. Now a National Trust property, where me and the missus volunteer - when circumstances allow. Since the population is 140,000, I will disqualify myself from the challenge. Still it its my smallest town and I wanted to share some of the positive charm of the Mexican mountain town. I asked the mother's permission to snap her two princess daughters. This crippled busker had both spirit and talent and always seemed in a good mood. My Spanish sucks but the Mexicans I've had to do with in San Miguel and in NYC are friendly, helpful, and hardworking. Most are family people and don't work for a drug cartel. Edo I grew up in San Diego so always looked over that border and wondered why the same land didn't give the same peace and prosperity.. I agree about the people and, of course, there is a large population in our Southwest. Families who have been here since their land was part of Mexico. I love their own cuisine but they seem to get good at any other -- Italian, NY, even French. The drug problem? Well . . . who are the customers who money this business?
