New (lower) minimum price?

Recommended Posts

Hi

on Alamy's home page alamy.com it says "Pricing from £15", but if you look at an individual image, no matter if RF or RM, the pricing officially starts at £ 9.99.

Wasn't it £15.00 or £14.99 before, consistent with the statement on the home page?

Edit: I think the "Marketing package: Small business" price has also been lowered, but I'm not totally sure.

My two sales yesterday were for $2.12 each - .63 after commission.

Distrib sales hopefully?

Yes, Italy, though at that 'price' it makes little difference.

I've had some really low Italy distributor sales as well. You couldn't buy a stale biscotti with the proceeds. B)

Yep, from the poor people of the "Third World Country" Italy

Cheers,

Philippe

Having had an exact same sale, same date, country and rate, out of curiosity could I ask what the subject was? Mine was of Prince Harry

Probably not related then! Thank you

Those sales to Italy are really easy to find with Google. Mine this time was used in a slide show together with 61 other images, all from Alamy. (And ripped off at least once.) Most of the slide shows (several each day) seems to be of images from news agencies. Those are free after paying a subscription. The photo desk of a newspaper now gets about 10,000 of these images every day. My guess is that this deal is about the same as the UK newspaper deal, and what we're seeing is the result of a newspaper using images on a huge scale. The fee is a drop in the ocean, but so are the images.

So far I have had 8 sales this month and I'm not very happy. Here you can see why:

14,39

14,39

21,57

44,99

14,99

14,99

15,88

9,99

= $151,19

The last one came in yesterday. I mean 9,99? These are all RM and all by Alamy. No distribution.  Most of them were for slide-shows or power-point presentations, but still. The same number of sales when I was new at Alamy in 2005 came in at $844!

So I'm worried if Alamy can keep up making a profit or if they are headed down the same drain as many other in this business.

Alamy you must stop selling our images for  5.75US$   . You cannot be making a profit at this fee and all the photographers are getting annoyed.  I know it is only for web use but everything has a price and an image is worth more than a cappucino

I've checked this a couple of times because it seems odd but...

The minimum price for using an image for a presentation seems to be fluctuating. Last night I was seeing:

If you browse alamy.com on a PC, the minimum price displayed for using an image for a presentation is £9.99

If you browse alamy.com on an iPad, the minimum price (for the same image) for using an image for a presentation is £4.99

But this morning, even browsing on the PC, the price for using an image in a presentation is £4.99

I too had a $2.12 Italy sale yesterday. Eh? I shall refrain from spitting out a long line of Romano vulgarities.  :(

Hey, wim -- we're part of the same slide show! That makes me feel better.

For 2 dollars you can get a wonderful cappuccino at Bar Duomo in Milan, Italy and if you tell barista you are an Alamy contributor he will put his creative signature on the top too! Enjoy!  :D  ;)

Unfortunately the posts moved away from the original topic.

Anyways, today I got the answer myself: Alamy now states on www.alamy.com that the minimum price is £9.99, not £15 anymore as the website still stated a few days ago. So the entry price has officially been lowered, opening doors to even lower prices with discounts or bulk sales.

We contributors need the option to set a guaranteed minimum price. £10 is already peanuts, but speaking for myself, I rather not sell an image than selling it for only a dollar or two.

  It's not £9.99 though... it's £4.99...

What?

I just checked a few of my pictures, both RM and RF, and all of them state £9.99 for a presentation use. No idea why it is £4.99 for you now...

I do seem to see the prices fluctuate between £9.99 and £4.99

As I posted previously, on one night I saw a different price depending on whether I looked with my iPad or PC.

The screenshot was taken an hour or so ago on my PC.

I wonder if the price varies where you are in the world (based on your IP address)? Seems wrong if it does.
