Gosh, well done. I think the most important part of this story is the repeat fee. I had a sale for $1164 a few years ago. Another pic of the same subject on the same day (landscape version thereof as opposed to portrait) has sold a further four times but only for a total of $250 between them.

Still, it was in total a nice return for pics snapped while I was sitting on a bench eating lunch on my way somewhere else!

I am pleased to see a sale reported today for a gross of $1139.71

This same image was licensed a couple of years ago - looks like the same use/ user - for $965.35

No I won't be sharing this one. Let's just say it was the last subject of a long day and very much an afterthought. So, keep shooting when you think you have done. 😀

I made the effort to walk a couple of hundred metres when all I really wanted to do was stop for a pint.

A reminder why I stay 100% Rights Managed.

Hopefully, they will still want it in 2025 for another year.

That's fantastic Ian, congratulations! It shows that those afterthoughts can be really worthwhile.

It really is a numbers game...

in past, both volume scheme AND quality scheme
could produce stock sale riches, netting $100K+ US annually;
when one's average stock net license dropped below
about $150US net, it became more & more a volume scheme...
somewhere out there maybe someone is still making multiple
$150US net stock sales daily with highly curated smallish collection...
IDK who...

Jeff, 25 years ago, netting a hundred grand a year put you on the bottom of the stock photo world. Contributors were expected to have tight and well thought out collections and the manual editing of submissions made sure that happened. As far as I can tell, the people who were on the top back then are still thriving, they're just not doing stock.

I would be stunned to learn that there are photographers following the methods of 25 years ago are doing well today. Are there people trying? Maybe ... but I haven't heard much about them. And besides, what little I know would require the naming of other agencies - a clear violation of forum rules.

Congratulations. Yes, keep shooting and don't give up.

I need that advice, back with the Black Lives Matter demos in Bristol I had been following for a few hours and as the march started through city centre I decided to leave. I was tired, had enough. Took a parallel road and heard some loud cheering but didn't go back. This was when the Colston statue was token down then dumped in Bristol Harbour. Could have had rather a lot of photos of that but had none.

Problem with this is that "intensely curated commercial" has pretty much ceased to exist and "moderately curated volume" didn't become a real possibility until the digital era was in full swing. Imagine shooting four or five hundred rolls of 35mm a month, and then captioning them, and then packing them up and shipping them out.

For just one's own images, I suppose.
I've previously opined that some who
are massive public domain sellers are
netting >$100K annually, even $200K+
Look at this individual with dozen+ pseudos;
prolly has near 5M LoC freebies total online...

anyone can pursue this scheme to the max, not many do...

Just out of interest. Alamy is selling 'high resolution' copies of expired copyright images. How does this guy get hold of a high res copy?

Although maybe it's not because Alamy caveats it by saying that because it's archive, it can have 'imperfections'...

Jeff, Don't be shy.

You have 150,000 of your OWN images.

That talent and dedication should be celebrated.

I for one am in total admiration.

You are a stock photography LEGEND ( that is a good thing)

All the best for the next 150k

Ian

I had just finished chatting to my daughter about how business was nowhere near as good as it used to be etc and that we would be eating stale bread and water for our Xmas meal. 😜

I'll treat myself to another glass of home-made elderberry wine to celebrate.

Be careful with homemade wine. I never got sick from drinking anything until I drank homemade wine. I had to take a walk in a cold mist to keep everything down. Cold sweat & a bit of zigzagging (you might call it staggering) walk on a campground road. One 8 ounce plastic glass. I think the staggering was more from feeling so sick than being inebriated. I feel ill just thinking about homemade wine.

Kudos to you for a winning image, twice! Now you can afford to buy a bottle from the shop.
