$0.18 sale!!!

Recommended Posts

Just beaten my record for the lowest sale amount ever - $0.18!!!! I'll get $0.07 net.

It's one of my best sellers so don't want to post it here.

Mixed feelings though as it's matched my best ever sales total for a year with 163, but at those prices it will take a while for revenue to match the best ever for a year!

I would be willing to tolerate these sales if they were exceptional. But they are becoming more frequent and, in addition, prices, numbers and profits are falling.
I don't even remember selling a photo for more than $ 100. It won't take long and my interest in the Alamas will definitely end. I'll go the other way. I will make room for corporate creativity enthusiasts.

You are correct. The lowest I’ve had is $1.67. As the images in your link are credited to Alamy/AP, first time I’ve seen that, is Alamy and AP both taking a cut from a low sale value, hence the ridiculous $0.18?

I’ve had three sales for $0.10 this year. Combined that’s $0.12 for me. Talking of taking the P, even without figuring in the exchange rate, that’s not enough to use a public convenience around here 🙂

You have public conveniences?  Lincoln seem to be demolishing theirs.

Alamy response:

"I’ve had a look and this particular customer has an image pack with us where they pay a set fee and can licence a set number of images for that. The fee is then split between the contributors. The stock industry has become very competitive and in order to keep customers we have to consider our pricing and offer image packs in order to keep customers. Our sales teams work extremely hard to negotiate on deals with all forms of customers and always try to get the best market value possible for each license."

$0.18 is shockingly low and no explanation supports a fee that low. On the other hand, I've had 6 healthy $$$ so far in 2021. My images are all RM and all exclusive with Alamy.

I hope Tony Stone is staying healthy and enjoying his retirement in the South of France.

you may want to ask them when the reconciliation is done for this split.

eg. 1000 images for $1000.

user only uses 800 images in package, so split between contributors that is $1000/800= $1.25 per image.

Do they wait until the end of the contract to ever pay?  Do they initially credit the nominal $1.00 and later adjust the $0.25?

note: i am not presenting the other scenario, since that would mean Alamy's statement is wrong, and i never would expect Alamy to not pay contributor what they received from clients

Just wondering, is it mainly UK contributors who are seeing these ridiculous $0.20-ish sales? I get tiddlers -- e.g. CT -- but nothing like this (touch wood).

On the other end of the spectrum, a $$$ sale (TV use) popped up this week. First one since September, so it was encouraging to see that they still exist.

Ok ... my kettle went bang this morning so to be able to buy a new cheap one with my royalty split on these sales I'd need Alamy to sell another 223 at this price. Please get selling as I want a warm cuppa :)

This is a major UK national newspaper.

20 photographers are sharing £1 of commission tossed their way. Then that newspaper can sell on those images through syndication.

To me it is completley demeaning and downright shameful.

Sympathise! A recent sale on my account. Not the lowest fee but it was the terms of usage that annoyed me most here given the fee...

Country: Worldwide
Media: All media
Start: 18 November 2021
Duration: Unlimited

£4.50!!

If it was for personal use or on a single website would have overlooked it.

At the same time another image (in fact a still pulled from high bitrate 4K video footage I had shot) sold twice for $44.45 a piece.  It would be useful if we had some link to perhaps a generic eplanation to justify such low fees relevant to usage terms. Presumably this image was sold as part of a bundle and hence that's my share 😕

Video is clearly the medium to focus my efforts going forward. The exception maybe reportage imagery and unique concept photography or other unique topics few have access to but may be I should find another more specialist outlet for the latter 🤔  Anyway rare I'm out now shooting solely pictures these days.

I expect Alamy will give up this non-sustainable ghost before too long. Maybe a few years.

It will collapse upon itself.

if that was to happen what would likely happen to our images. Sold on to SS? I’m on a park and ride bus about to stop, can’t currently check the contract.

That will be the time I remove all of my images, most likely.

if there’s a collapse, I think it will only be after some desperate moves like just happened to us, and the ensuing time to see if it works for Alamy.
Prepare yourselves for more cuts down the road.  Will it happen? Who knows…but I’m seeing some faint handwriting on the wall. The invisible ink is beginning to fail.
