Have you found any Alamy photographs in January 2020

Just wondering, how many contributors whose images we find here would prefer that we didn't post the actual photos and restricted the find to the Alamy code?

I very occasionally do so, but only if I regard the shot as being exceptional and unlikely to be copied. I have a concern, that run of the mill images, which might be bread and butter earners, could be easily copied. Ok, it's possible for anyone to drill down and take a look, but I suspect that doesn't happen very often. 🤔

Generally I prefer not to have the image posted but it depends what it is.  As you say Bryan, some can easily be copied. A reference number and a link to a website is fine and I much appreciate the hard work and time that some put in to bring us this information.

Interesting point Bryan, not thought of this before now, and think you're right, there's little value in posting images of stock sales, and potentially some harm.
That said, most of my findings here are Live News, which by their nature are unlikely to be copied, so doubt they present any problem - plus maybe it makes things easier for contributors to spot their stuff?

Conclusion... Live News yes. Stock no?

Personally I tend to agree with you Bryan.

And in the "Images sold in..." thread I tend to only post images that cant be easily copied

Thank you!

Btw this is the first time The Guardian is asking me to log in to view my image.

Now we happen to have a digital subscription, but it's not accepting my log in. 😡

I'd say that posting the watermarked proof images is the way to go, if posting images to go along with the web address of where you found it. After all the article is going to form more of a set of keywords for that image for google, than posting it on here

I was about to post something similar to Tony, but he has literally stated my thoughts. The only addition would be to include reportage with live news. Alamy still licences my older lapsed news, along with newer reportage. All are news related, recording a moment in time, and although often credited as Alamy Stock, are dissimilar to traditional stock that could be copied. It's time consuming continually searching for on-line usage, and difficult tracing usage in print, so when my images are found I certainly appreciate it.

To get a definitive answer it might be productive to start another thread and create a poll so everyone can cast a vote.

The problem there Craig is that many contributors would like to see what has been sold by others (myself included, but I get to see them by searching the papers), whereas the people whose images have been found would sometimes prefer that they were not displayed (myself included!) . We are dealing with two different audiences.

In my book it would be a professional discourtesy deliberately to try to replicate an image posted here. I would certainly never even think about it. If I happened to be in the same area in the future it would of course be fair game, but that's different.

That said, not many of my images turn up here and I don't do any active tracking down for "have you found" unless they accompany an image of mine on a website.

The only images I don't report are my very few best-sellers of a single subject from 2012, which would be easy to replicate but haven't been.
