looking for that little bit extra resolution etc?

You would need a lot of $6 sales on Alamy to recoup the $48,990 cost of that camera!!

Yes, of course you would. Or, alternatively, my last month's, (admittedly quite a good month but not my best and of course not every month), print sales. It's all relative.

A sensible tool for high-end studio advertising photographers, perhaps (or maybe for rich dentists).  But buying one of these things to shoot stock? In the words of the immortal John McEnroe: "You can't be serious!"

I had already my coat on and was about to go to the store to buy one of those babies when I noticed the $ 5.75 sale that just dropped in. Think I'll just stay in my comfy chair ........... keywording

Cheers,

Philippe

Philippe, just another 8,000 more of those $6 sales, and you can put your coat back on!

. It's all relative.

Ah, but much less relative for some of us, eh?

Mark, I never said that! See above.

Doesn't have to be less relative for some of you, it depends on what you have chosen to do with most of your photographic life. I have made conscious choices to pursue a certain route through photography, that, as long as you have the good work to sell through certain markets, can be very fruitful. (Having said that, most, if not all my projects and gallery-based work has been self-initiated, not to market or client demands). If I can, and have, done it, then so can many more here if they wished. I am trying to be encouraging here. Just to replace the 8" x 10" kit, camera, lenses, holders, tripod, etc. I use for most of my projects and gallery-based work, not to mention all my other kit, would cost a lot more than the Phase One kit shown, so it is all relative.

While we are talking about low prices for stock and $6 sales, on Alamy's home page it states that prices start at £15!

Then spare a thought for those who don't have $50,000 worth of kit or make $50,000 turnover in a month.

It's not just the cost of the camera either - what can you do with the output? There's the A0 (larger?) printer which delivers a gamut to justify the camera. That said, I can see the need for one... Camera porn at its best!

  • 2 weeks later...

Phase One or Jaguar XE? No contest, I'll have the XE S.

I could make money (maybe a lot) with one, the other would cost money (definitely a lot) to run . . . I just might be tempted, if money wasn't an issue, to go for the camera
