After several disappointing months I have noticed three things in the first part of this month.

1 - More sales

2 - All at 50% so far, no distributors

3 - Much healthier average price

I know my experience is statistically meaningless in the big Alamy pond, but it is very encouraging. Anyone else had a good start to the new financial year?

Just had a sale drop in today (for a reasonable price) after a dead March and a pretty awful few months.  Interest in the image dates back a few months - it was zoomed twice by ref # (Dec/Jan), but it does make me feel a little better all the same.  Zooms are still very low though, giving me a pretty dreadful rolling CTR.

Zooms down, sales zero. So no, not a better month to date!  :(

Thanks for providing an opportunity for a good moan, feel better for that  :)

Zooms nil. Views down. Sales three. Not complaining as I am down at page 24 on BHZ game. :D

Allan

Edit: My CTR = 0  Yes!  That is ZERO  but still getting sales.

Does CTR and the BHZ game count?  I don't think so, at least not in my case at present.

May I ask what CTR is good? And what do you guys mean by reasonable price? Is it $200 ot rather about 1k?

Some 4 zooms in April and last sale in March. Nothing special is happening to me.

Btw. as it's April I opted out of re-sellers. It won't change a lot as I usually have 50/50% sales. Maybe 3 sales was for 30% in my all history here.

I guess a CTR equal to or greater than the Alamy average for the same time period is good (?).

Generally, I consider anything over $100 to be a decent sale.

Ditto.

Of course, everyone will have their own ideas according to what their 'normal' results and monthly returns are.  $50 monthly gross might be great for one, while $5000 monthly gross is going to be p*** poor for another.  You have to decide for yourself where you ultimately fit into the grand scheme of things here at Alamy Towers.

I don't think that the BHZ game counts, no.  I went up from page 16 (where I had been since I started playing the game a couple of year back) to page 8 on the last re-rank, yet my zooms dropped off markedly at around the same point, as did what had been increasing sales.  My stats are so insignificantly small though...

CTR.  I think that counts, yes.  I don't want to put a damper on things, but current sales often date back a while, so maybe your current low CTR (and mine) will only kick in a few months hence?  Then again, your sales will probably counterbalance your CTR in calculating your rank, so you could have a nice lifebelt to cling onto there!

The last week has been better than last 15 months in total. My sales fell off a cliff at start of 2013 but I had couple of modest licence sales this week, a month or so after revamping my keywords and pseudonyms.

I don't think it 'counts' for anything, as such. It is a useful, if rather vague, indicator of where you stand. You are, after all, only comparing yourself to others who join in the game. I'm not sure the Chucks and the Jeffs play along.

It's especially useful to those with more than one pseudo. I use several and comparing their respective performances can be very enlightening (page one / p4 / p5 / p16)

I'm starting to see more and more sales that have never been zoomed. 3 So far this month and I know of at least another 3 to be reported.

Interesting that someone started this thread so early in the month.

I have nearly 300 sales over the last 7 years, and dividing the months into quarters the percentage of total sales are:

1st quarter of month  : 13%

2nd quarter of month :  17%

3rd quarter of month :  22%

4th quarter of month :  48%

Although the last time I had a month without any sales was December 2009,   I often don't see any until the last week.    Yet others seem to have sales more spread through the month - I have not though what the reason for this might be.

April is turning out to be a better year than 2013 ;)

I have had almost as many sales in last 11 days as in whole of 2013, and that is from material that has been on Alamy for several years. 2013 was awful and I have been very close to giving up on Alamy, had had better sales elsewhere from much less material. Am getting to grips with where I want to go with my photography.

I too am currently showing more sales than zooms - will be interesting to see what that does to ranking!

Glad to hear that things are picking up. Most of my sales are from older material, even some very old material.

Interesting that someone started this thread so early in the month.

I thought I'd try and post something positive early on to see if anyone else joined in. Still going quite well, including a tennis pic from last year, so I've almost paid for the train fare to Eastbourne.

Another thing I've noticed is that most of my recent sales are from quite new material - stuff taken in the last year or so, whereas in the past I did best from older reliable bestsellers.

John and Martin seem to be finding the opposite.

That might be because I have not put much stock up in last year, didn't seem to be much point. Put some news stuff up without success though.

I did do a major reorganisation of my pseudonyms and reviewed my keywords without huge changes. All about 1-2 months ago, about time of last re-rank.

I've also been going back and revisiting captions and keywords. In general, though, I find that my older images do much better than my recent ones. But that has to do with subject matter more than anything else. I can't afford to travel the way I used to.

Bad month so far. Alamy retains its ongoing position as my worst performing agency by several hundred %. I have images to keyword but it's not on my priority list. Being the agency with the most photos isn't necessarily a positive.
