I think people use a variety of ways of finding them. Ones where the location is in the image or article, I find are usually easyish to look for through Alamy search i.e Borley Rectory (above) only had about 6 returned in the search - so very easy to find.

Greyfriars more difficult as pages of images. So I try various searches 'Greyfriars Churchyard' 'Greyfriars gates' etc

You're right you can also use various EXIF viewers as outlined in other forum topics

I use one that, I think Bryan did a note or link to in one of the Images found threads but I can't find it - it's Jeffrey's Exif Viewer.

Hope that helps

To their shame most of the newspaper sites, with the notable exception of the Guardian, destroy the EXIF data.

Google image search often turns up the individual Alamy page for the image. If it's been knocked off dozens of times from Mailonline it's dead easy to find.

REF. Lynne's Post above,

Bryan mentioned Tineye a short while ago.

Just right click on the image that is found, and select 'Copy Image Location'. Paste that in to the Tineye search box, and it usually shows up some Alamy info.

Click the bit that says 'image-details-popup.asp' and hey presto ! .....  the Alamy image opens up as if just been zoomed, showing you the info of who the photographer is (it doesn't seem to work for the most recent images tho, so give time for Tineye system to update).

Also when searching like this, you can see if the same image has been placed with multiple libraries. I just found one in the Guardian in no less than 8 libraries (Getty, Masterfile, Amanaimages, Alamy, Aurora etc. , listed as either RF or RM, depending on where placed. That's swamping the market I guess. And is why a commercial picture buyer friend of mine says don't place the same images in multiple libraries that cover the same territories.... they do shop around for the lowest price.
