  1. Now we have this new Forum format, which is much narrower on most devices and displays, it's a good moment to point out the solution to images getting squished here. You can only remedy this on your own images in your own post. So if your images appear squished and you want to rectify that: Go back to your original post. Click Edit. Double click on each image and tick the box Keep original aspect ratio. Click save. Done. wim
  2. Probably still the squishing problem. Go back to your images for a moment, double click on each and check the box Keep original aspect ratio. That way they won't appear squished anymore. From the November Challenge: <> just here in the Reply to this topic. AKA Submit Reply box on this forum. So go back to your original post. Click Edit. Double click on each image and tick the box Keep original aspect ratio. Click save. Done. Why? Dunno. Sometimes an image comes with that box ticked but from some places it comes not being ticked. Sometimes an images becomes flattened like with some thumbnails; sometimes squished as with some zooms/comps. The small magnifying glass button between the Size and GIF buttons, will give you a Preview. It is not a search button. Anyway that box cures it. I'm not using the Quote function, because now longer quotations get largely obscured. Consider this a workaround. The thing with the check box is not a workaround, it's a feature. The funny thing is that it works the wrong way around: Images that fit, like verticals from the Zoom page, are always inserted with that check box ticked automatically. While images that are too wide, get squished, because the tick box is left empty. wim edit: forgot to say that everyone can only do that on his/her own images.
  3. Yes I had a remark about that, but removed it after 10 minutes or so because I could not explain why. I would prefer a link to the zoom page where you can see the caption and all the rest. Just the caption appears in the address field when you click again on that pop-up image to see the View image page. Like this: two-ford-edsels-in-front-of-the-rusty-bolt-souvenir-shops-and-bikers-BJHWNG.jpg wim
  4. I'm guessing it used to follow the rules you set for screen display in your browser, but now the font and size is governed by a style sheet. wim
  5. Hey did we lose them already? That was quick. wim
  6. Wow! Well spotted! wim
  7. 794 pix wide. Yes interesting design choice. Design dept seems to think displays are getting smaller. 4K; 8K? Nah people will never want that on their iPhone. Because real designers only use an iPhone. Only stupid male graybeard photographers use desktops. This looks to be the maximum image size allowed: 811 px wide Puzzle in China. Looking forward finding it in Aliexpress. Sale was for print run up to 1000. Up to 1000?? to China??? Hmmmm. Nice $$$, but distro. And no puzzle is not a city in China. πŸ˜‚ wim edit: Had to drastically reduce the hard returns, because the alamy stock photo banner still blocks part of the form when first writing a post. Not when editing though. This used to be the case always, but cannot remember if it was this much.
  8. Has that Member's solved count thingy been there before? Is that the amount of problems solved for or by the Member? Is there a link or a place where we can check what those problems have been? Could we have a number for problems caused? 😁 Hmm maybe not. 😎 wim
  9. Same here: (not my teeth btw.) However a nice set of x-rays of something that older people tend to get with the proper keywording... wim
  10. Or at least give the date the need was posted. And indeed something to let us know if the keeper of that list thinks the subject has been sufficiently covered. And in a way he/she envisaged. wim
  11. Unless all of this is a nice/bad dream... πŸ˜‚ Where's my spinning top? (from Inception) wim
  12. Some of us probably do remember Alamy asking for before&after and seasons changing images and montages. I remember selling one with 9 different signs, clearly all different images in a grid. I think it even sold a couple of times. At that time every image was inspected. If combining of images like this has become verboten, I certainly have missed the tweet. Probably because I do not use twitter. In this case I think the before & after was not very well executed. Personally I think before after images ideally should be like mouse-overs with shots from the exact same viewpoints. Something even not always achieved by Sieger in his Atget revisited images btw. wim
  13. That's near impossible. Zooms are easy, because they show up the next day here, if you click on your pseudonym and then sort on zooms - highest first. You can do this for the whole of the current/rolling year. Sales are a lot harder because not all sales are made by the client using one of the keywords. One way clients used to do it was by the Alamy ID#. However those results are not shown anymore. Clients do zoom images this way too. Also filtered out. Which is why lots of sales happen without zooms. Visible zooms that is. Years ago these did show up, that's how we know. Too much useful information I guess. Some sales do eventually turn up in the database report though, which is why it's fun to check the whole year once in a while and sort for sales. I usually do this around Christmas 😁. wim
  14. You can click on that link when you're logged in. A ton of information about it in the archives of this forum. Here's one of mine as a start. wim
  15. That's would be an easy test. Just look on AoA if clients do use that for the subject at hand. It's clear that contributors use things like: London monuments Rome monuments Indian monuments Japan monuments European capitals world capitals These ones I have collected over the years from searches from AoA btw. So in these cases: yes. Even when there's only one capital or monument in the image. And even when there are legit searches and images for world capitals, showing just that: capitals of the world. Like on those sign posts. But if there's a whole page of searches a year and only 1or 2 are of this kind, I would have a good look at my images and only include the plural if they would be showing up on the first page for such a search and most importantly if they would stand a chance of getting picked from that page. Actually this is a question one should ask - and in all honesty answer to one self - for every image: will it have a fair fighting chance of getting seen and if so: getting picked? wim
  16. Good question. No answer I'm afraid, other than: ask every member. Initially when this was a new feature, some of us posted the link to our portfolios here. When you click on the small blue number to the left here (yours is showing 322 at the moment, mine is 2605) that will show a contributors complete collection, with the newest first, regardless of pseudonyms. While the portfolio will usually start with a curated page, my portfolio is set up a bit differently: it starts up with the same order as the blue number, and there's a second tab for a small showcase portfolio. Usually it's the other way around, with the last tab for the complete collection. If a portfolio starts up with small thumbnails, that's because of the page setting for thumbnails. If yours is set up for large thumbs, but the portfolio starts up with small thumbs, go to the next page and come back to the first page. That way it will know it has to show large thumbs. It's a weird bug that probably only affects people that are logged in contributors. wim
  17. No, just here in the Reply to this topic... AKA Submit Reply box on this forum. So go back to your original post. Click Edit. 18. Candidates for the Darwin Awards (rules on Wikipedia) of course also stand a good chance, combining at least two of the above list. πŸ˜‚ This was a hoax. Or rather a staged image as a promotional for a volcano chaser. Petapixel Phlearn wim edit: Allan, if you go back to your images for a moment, double click on each and check the box Keep original aspect ratio. That way they won't appear squished on most displays.
  19. I thought it was the other way around nowadays: all those videographers look like photographers. But why not? Now would they make it to the last 8? Let me share a couple of personal bonus points and possible wildcards: Most photographers in one image; Humour/humor: something funny; A photographer doing something stupid that only we, other photographers, recognize; A photographer doing something really clever. But good images will always trump uhh win over bad ones. wim
  20. Sybille, thank you for a very successful challenge! And thanks for voting everybody, not just for my friendly orange guy 😁 For the new challenge let's pick a theme that we all know something about: - photographers. Some simple rules: there has to be a person and there has to be at least one camera. Preferably somebody who is using his/her camera. Groups of photographers/people using cameras are fine. People taking selfies are fine even people using their phones as a camera are fine. It's pretty popular with contributors: photographers - 138,101 photographer - 745,207 photographing - 192,526 taking a picture - 49,663 taking a photo - 224,809 selfie - 247,698 photography - 11,382,859 - all results here on Alamy. Maybe a little less so with clients, but there's still quite a considerable demand. (AoA) The rest of the rules are as usual: 3 images per person max; they must be on Alamy; this challenge closes on Monday November 30 at midnight GMT. The poll will be up at some point the next day. Have fun! wim
  21. Thank you! 🍾πŸ₯‚πŸ™Œ And all those who voted! 50! And thank you for a very successful challenge. And all those great contributions. My personal choice was the Pantone mug, which I thought was the perfect answer. But today I'm clearly very happy with my celebratory orange guy. (And no re-counts! 😁) Now let me think of a good one for the rest of the month. wim edit: and here is that new challenge.
  22. The upload channel for phone pictures on Alamy is here: https://www.stockimo.com/ However it's generally not allowed to discuss the Stockimo app here, nor the quality or anything else about Stockimo imagery. wim
  23. Some browsers (eg Chrome) have a function/extension that checks if the password you are using is in a database with compromised passwords that were part of known big hacks. It has nothing to do with Alamy. You can check the database here. wim
