Those are beautiful performance photos Alan. I love the clarity and the light.
Alan Beastall
Thanks Sally, the lighting can be very tricky, it is constantly changing in brigntness and colour but also due to the frequency on the LED lights you can get banding across the image if the camera's shutter speed is too high. Spot metering and shutter speed less than 1\350 helps. Colour balance and skin tone can be sorted out in Lightroom. Good fast and sharp lens 85mm f1.4 and 35mm f1.4 are my got to lens. A great woman and artist, even got her to sign her book, We Could Fly, in the green room to our two amazing grandsons after the gig. Check her out and listen to her music. Many thanks Alan

Many thanks Alan Thank you so much for those tips Alan. I can see you have done a really good job with the colour balance and skin tone. I am really keen to do some gig photography myself. I had a bit of a go with a 90mm f2.8 lens a few years ago. I remember the rapidly changing lights and colours at the gig I was at. What makes it kind of exciting are those constantly changing conditions mean you never quite know what you are going to get and it sometimes makes for some lovely effects. I have a 50-140mm f2.8 that could be good, especially if I can't get too close to the performers. I'm thinking of getting a 33mm 1.4 next which will be good as a faster lens. I will definitely check out Rhiannon Giddens. It's wonderful you got the book signed with your two grandson there. Thanks again.

John Richmond
My wife recently bought me a moth trap to see what was about in my jungle of a garden: Here's some results from the first night's trapping. Nothing rare, but insects I've never photographed before: Ruby Tiger moth, Phragmatobia fuliginosa Poplar hawk moth, Laothoe populi Buff Ermine, Spilosoma luteum Nut-tree Tussock moth, Colocasia coryli All moths released safely and unharmed after shooting.
