The Guardian, 31st May -

A4GPWD - Mediscan - Victorian Hospital Ward circa 1890

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/31/did-a-coronavirus-cause-the-pandemic-that-killed-queen-victorias-heir

A very interesting, if rather disturbing, article about the Great Russian Flu pandemic of 1890.  Research carried out in 2005 suggests it was caused by a coronavirus with similarities to Covid-19.  Many of the 1890 patients suffered central nervous system damage – a relatively rare symptom for influenza but common in the Covid-19 pandemic - and men were far more vulnerable than women, another feature shared with Covid-19.

The most disturbing part - the initial outbreak subsided after six weeks but killed about 27,000 (in the UK).  It returned the following year and killed over twice as many (58,000) then returned again the year after that and killed another 25,000.
