How to successfully apply for Live News image upload service

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I wanted to shoot live news pictures but found out there's an application process.

Those between you who applied successfully, can you please show me the link that you filled into "Website or portfolio" field and the pdf file you uploaded as a "recent PDF of a news clipping showing your published work"? Thanks a lot.

I can't help much as my own application to rejoin Live News after I was kicked off was rejected. What I can say is that unless you are doing live news as a major part of your work and have the facilities to shoot, caption and upload quickly from the field, you are unlikely to be successful in your application. Don't give up without applying, it you are determined, but just be aware that the entry bar is set high nowadays, much higher than it was up to a month ago.

This is the portfolio/publications link I sent: https://www.imagesofmythoughts.com/Photography/Publications-Exhibitions/

Very few of my news publications are through Alamy Live News. On the other hand, a 2nd life for the photo through Alamy, months or years down the line, often brings in more than the original publication.

Although photojournalism and news is what I do, I would certainly be unable to financially sustain myself if I relied only on the income from photojournalism.

I was unsuccessful too. I only joined Alamy a few months ago, I specialise in catwalk fashion at events such as London Fashion Week, I had taken a break from photography and only just started again so was pleased to be able to upload some images from a LFW show back in Feb...then they made the changes to news contributions and I applied to be a news contributor but was rejected. I realise that my subject is not "hard news" but I have previously been published in fashion magazines around the world, including British Vogue, and in newspapers, but nothing recent to put on my application, which I guess did not help either.

Missed this post earlier. "Although photojournalism and news is what I do, I would certainly be unable to financially sustain myself if I relied only on the income from photojournalism", so true.

Just went through this process. Good news is that my latest editorial sale where I could grab a good tearsheet was sold from Alamy.

Bad news, I had to jump through many hoops to create a < 1MB PDF file.

Now I wait.

If you have had live news photos sold in the past with alamy you can apply. I did not need to re apply having had sales in the past.

How had you sold live news photos in the past if you aren't in the live news program? Is it something new. I've been a contributor here for 10 years, but never paid attention to the live news part. Then 3 times in the last months, I've had a newsworthy image. Don't really care if it goes through live news, but I can't wait several days to go through the normal process.

If you have access to the Reportage upload opportunity (the Reportage / Archival part) - newsworthy news and reportage images can be uploaded and bypass QC - and you will get the 600 letters caption. Will be on line after the next server update.

But you may have been accepted in the news section?

My understanding is that if you have live breaking new photos, you can call or email Alamy Newsl and get access if they believe the images might be worth push-distributing to news editors.  Don't know how fast they are to respond.

The were very quick in responding when I emailed, minutes.
