STOCK PHOTO TRIP REPORT

Nice pics of our Latin neighbors, Jeff.

Now that you're home, I must make a suggestion. Please please, do not assume because I have essential tremor that you do too. See your GP about your condition. Hopefully, you already have done so.

Shadowing your career as supplier of airline travel posters
would have been a great desire, but taking medical advice
from anyone other than my neurologist is my rule...
Ironically, saw him today & got DaT (brain scan) results
that revealed my slight shaking when holding camera
is essential tremor but my right hand goes into shaking
when I am not holding something is, tah dah, Parkinsons.
A new drug starting today may end that.  I have a way of
controlling it consciously by purposely slowly moving my
right fingers-thumb in any fashion, once per second or so,
which stops the 5X/sec Parkinsons shaking, but of course
one can't forever slowly tap, one forgets...

Geog-a-gogo

Someone reporting I have a sense of humor is,
in itself, a reward!

I don't like to hear anything bad coming into your life, Jeff. Parkinsons is a scary diagnosis but people seem to be able to do very well for a long, long time. Take care of yourself and continue to enjoy your very unique take on the world.

Thanks.

Good news!
New medication taken 2 hrs ago.

(Carbidopa/levodopa)

Its working !!!!!!!  🤩_ 🤩_ 🤩
Right hand shakes minimally now only when excited...

May be able to go back to 1/30th or 1/20th sec as me slowest shutter speed !!

One side effect of this drug = possible reduced appetite.

I may be able to get down to me original weight !!
(7 lbs 4 oz)

Very good to hear. Better not play Jerry Lee Lewis though. The 7lbs had me stopped for a minute.  Original weight!!!

Hi Jeff,

I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis but there is more and more research and understanding about Parkinson's all the time. I read a really interesting chapter in Norman Doidge's book The Brain's Way of Healing about a man named John Pepper who had had Parkinson's a long time but through his own walking program managed to eliminate his tremor. He actually came off all his meds (which I am not recommending - do what the doctor says!) but I just thought that might give you some encouragement that a person can not only prevent degeneration but even reverse some of it and heal. There is an article from The Guardian from 2015 on it:

https://www.theguardian.com/science/2015/feb/08/man-walks-off-parkinsons-symptoms-norman-doidge-extract-brain-heals-body

My Dad had Parkinson's so it's a familiar thing to me. He had a great sense of humour and a tenacious spirit and I can tell you do too, which are the best assets you can have! Take good care of yourself Jeff.

That was my only advice -- see a doctor.

Must be quite a shock.

No.

Am same person today vs yesterday.

Only thing that changed was diagnosis & medicine.

Yesterday I had essential tremors & took primodone which didn't help much.

Today I have essential tremors & Parkinsons & take Carbidopa/levodopa which

seems to reduce shaking significantly & I can hold camera much steadier,

especially RX10 IV zoom extended to 600mm !!

?Possible? side benefits: board planes earlier, larger "accessible" hotel rooms & cruise ship cabins, parking, etc etc

(moral implications must be considered)

PS. exercise since quitting daily golfing Oct 2022 is briskly walking ~1.5 miles daily with wifey;

will ask neurologist about intense exercise...

Well one thing we know about you is you are not lazy. I have to walk around my neighborhood to feed cats for $$$ and in the busy holiday season I did 3.7 miles a day. I also had probably 4 hours in the afternoon to put my feet up. I'm an old lady of 82 and the foot problems I have had are easily cleared up now as long as I do a few simple exercises for 15 minutes a day and walk at least a mile.

Good idea. No doubt more studies need to be done re the possible benefits of intense exercise, but it sounds promising.

Happy to hear that the meds are helping. Your current exercise regimen sounds a lot like mine -- i.e. a decent walk every day. 🚶‍♂️
