dov makabaw
I have managed to incorporate my cover into my household insurance. Each element, ie lens and body, has been listed seperately to keep the perceived value down. I have not had a claim so have not been able to test the reaction if I lost several bodies or lenses but my brokers is confident that it will not be a problem. dov

Doc
Dov, I would be careful - the reason I changed to G&H from my home contents insurers was because I found they would not cover my photo equipment as I used it for semi-professional/professional use (ie I made money using it). Since I have a relatively unique name and am easily searchable on google it was obvious that I made some money from photography, hence the change.... Kumar Pretty well the same reason for me, I had been carrying about 8 grands worth of gear in the back of my car all over the Scottish highlands and other remote places all insured on my household policy, but when push come to shove and I phoned the insurance broker up to confirm that I was fully covered I got the bit about " do you make any money out of this stock photography " I replied with not as much as I would like to but yes.. I was then told that ...No your not covered mate..So I went to Clik who do cover my gear and my PL insurance whilst I am away.

PPA also offers discounts from Adobe and Apple. The last time I got a computer I was able to max out it's capabilities for a more "reasonable" price. There is also liability insurance though I must admit I'm not sure how far it goes. They would certainly be able to offer help and advice. Mike
I consider insurance covering pro use of equipment a must as well as some sort of liability insurance. I'm incorporated as a sole proprietor and was able to get a $2 million umbrella policy for the business side of things through my regular insurance agent for roughly $120 or so a year. Our agent is great to work with which is why we have stayed with him and the same company for 15+ years now. We get good discounts and great service, It helps that we have all our insurance with the same agent. Had I still been shooting full time I would have made sure to have a gear insurance similar to what redsnapper and ann have. These days it's not the end of the world if it takes the insurance company a couple of weeks to get back to me with a check should something get stolen. Nothing fancy, just regular business insurance for the gear and an umbrella policy for the liability side. Yes, it would cover theft when traveling. They they advised me that they did not cover cameras as I was a professional photographer. I have since taken out insurance with a company specialising in cameras for pros also adding liability insurance. I would not wait, Dov, until you have a claim. It could be an expensive proposition. RedSnapper
"Michael Wald is an experienced photographer with a special interest in stock photography of people and places both the UK and overseas." that looks like a business......for which you'd need business-level cover if i can find that, your insurers will too, if you ever make a claim on your houshold cover km

Martin P Wilson
I agree about PL - I need £5million cover for some accreditations especially trackside at motor sport events. The cost is trivial for the consequences of one mistake. It was brought home to me when I was taking shots at a music event (before PL) in a tight space by the sound console and other kit - it struck me that if I turned round and knocked something off with my bag it would cost me many times more than my total insurance cost. What happens if someone trips over your tripod and injures themself? Even as a complete amateur there is a good case for having PL.
