i4images Posted September 4, 2014 Share Posted September 4, 2014 I have been with alamy for quite a while now and I seem to remember that they blocked the viewing of keywords of others work, I now see you can see all the keywords of any images you click on, so anyone can farm them if they wanted to. why is this anyone know and how long has it been that way, It now seems anyone could rip off your hard work on keywords, I can see from the seo side but from a contributor point not good. also why is the forum still searchable by google, can it not be made private. cheers ian Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Doc Posted September 4, 2014 Share Posted September 4, 2014 I think all the keywords have been visible for about 8 or 9 months; before that just the ESS Keys were visible. As to the reason why, I would guess that from an overall Alamy POV it helps the business, but its not necessarily good for individual contributors... I suppose if you've put in a lot of work researching and keywording an image only for someone else to come along and cut and paste all your hard work it might be somewhat annoying. Chris Also, if other agencies show all the keywords for images, there is nothing to stop Alamy photographers from copying and pasting from those sites to their Alamy images. It's a breach of the contributor contract to rip off keywords. Just had a look, section 4.10. 4.10 You will ensure that all captions, keywording, descriptions and Pseudonyms, rights management or other information pertaining to the Images are and will remain accurate and do not infringe the copyright or other rights of any third party, and are not defamatory or pornographic. I often do them in Windows notepad in between uploading the batch and waiting for QC pass. That way I can keyword from the full size image and then just paste the notepad entries into the actual Alamy keyword boxes from notepad. It doesn't seem such a big task and lets me get them done in dribs and drabs without prolonging the time for them to actually go 'on sale'. I do sometimes look at keywords that others have done, simply because their images might appear in a search I've done and I can't understand why. It's often because the keywords are wrong e.g. having completely the wrong name for a town. That's just me being nosey, of course. The one big benefit that I have found with keywords being visible is that when other members have looked at my images, they have been able to point out keywords that I have missed. Sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees. I notice that this happens quite often amongst forum members and I think that's quite helpful. (and no, I don't want 500 suggestions today, tthanks - I've just been through all of my images re-doing the locations and undoing commas.....)
