DJI Mini 3 Pro Drone Image Quality?

Recommended Posts

Do any contributors use, or know someone that does, the DJI Mini 3 Pro? I'm curious to know if its images are acceptable by Alamy either as news or stock. If the images are marginal does down sizing create acceptable images. I've been investigating the drone and believe it creates the best 'bang for the buck', especially as it is just under 250gm. Web images from it look good, but they are relatively lo-res. Would initially use it for still images rather than video.

You've probably seen it but there was a short thread on this drone a year ago:

The link to the DPReview sample images still works:

The 'Amateur Photographer' review isn't bad either:

Thanks Harry, I had seen and pdf'd the dpreview article but not seen the AP review. I already knew due to its weight I would only need a free operator ID. I'm leaning towards buying one. I just need to submit my 2022/23 tax return to confirm my calculations and put a hold on buying a Sigma 150-600mm lens, that can wait.

I went to an exhibition by Hedley Thorne at Earth's Trust, Wittenham Clumps a few weeks ago, lovely stuff, and very interesting and easy to talk to. He uses the larger Pro drones though I think. From his Twitter feed (@thorneh) he does point out that quite naturally the Mini is not as stable in stronger winds.

Shame the horizon wasn’t straightened.

It's not a marine horizon and there is actually a lot of topography on it so one would not expect it to be straight. In fact if one was to rotate the image left, the leaning tower block in the middle distance left would lean even further to a dangerous looking angle.

Yes. Any way Bristol leans to the left...

😀 I didn't read the caption and didn't realise it was Bristol. I lived there for 7 years in the 90s but never saw it from that perspective.

During part of the 1970's I stayed in St Lukes Crescent, Totterdown. I still remember the view across Victoria Park from the back of the terraced house and the walk across the park to a pub. Then you could see the Wills factory on the other side.

I was close to a small grocers shop and some steps leading down to the road adjacent to the park. Had a blue escort estate parked outside. Next time I'm staying with my daughter and family in Horfield I'll have to take a walk in Totterdown. In the past I had friends in Knowle on the Wells Road but lost contact with them long ago. Paper rounds could be awful. I had one that included all the areas that didn't fit neatly into all the other rounds. I was glad when I moved on.

Even more off topic but a question for all you one-time Bristolians, does every one just take it upon themselves to paint their house a different colour or is there a plan?

I think it had more to do with the presence of a large Paint Factory...and availability. If you see what I mean.

Ahh, I didn’t go that far. I only delivered to the first few houses at the Windsor Terrace end of the Crescent. I wasn’t a paperboy for very long as I made a sideways career move, taking a job with the local milkman. That meant an increased, more regular income of £1 a day at weekends and during the school holidays.

Totterdown has changed a lot. It’s very Bohemian these days. A bit like parts of Horfield and St Andrews have become. We regularly park up on Kellaway Ave and take a walk down Gloucester Rd. it’s always a good opportunity for some street photography.

I like it like that  ...

[ Oops - apologies for bringing things down with a 'bump' - its nice to hear about the past antics of Alamy contributors and learn about the painted houses ☺️]
