Thanks! These were indeed via Alamy. I have a whole set of 'grim' Hawick which would have been going too far - desaturated run-down grimy looking shots done a couple of years ago on a rainy day. Actually, Hawick does have a reputation as a tough town. The image c33bpt shows the former Sugar Mountain shop. It was on the hill up to the left that my son Richard was trapped a few years ago when trying to return home to his house, which was up the hill, with his girlfriend. It was the end of the civic week, late at night, and the place was jammed with drunken Teries (Hawick locals). He got sworn at and the car got thumped, and when his girlfriend wound the car window down to ask people to let them through, someone tried to pull her out of the car. He leaped out of the other side like a shot and grabbed the guy, and pinned him against the car while dialling the police. He was foolish enough to let go, and as he turned away, the man pushed him with full force through the plate glass window of the shop which was above their sweet-making kitchen. He fell six feet into the kitchen, somehow kicked himself back out and this time held on to the drunk until the police arrived. His back was wrenched and he had minor cuts but was otherwise OK. They sold the house in Hawick and moved shortly afterwards. So, Grand Theft Auto - well, it's written in Scotland, no doubt the writers were perfectly familiar wth Hawick. Lovely place in other ways. Just a bit 19th century in manners. The shop closed shortly afterwards and was never repaired. There was eventually a court case but little happened, this kind of assault is seen as fairly minor in Scotland - community service order or something plus rehab.

Steven - You're very welcome.

David - ditto. I saw the gritty, grey and depressing shots and thought they were great - hadn't quite realised the extent to which they were shot in a war-zone!

Steve
