QUESTION:

Dear Alamy staff,

the following sale just have pop up in my account page and I would be glad if you can let me know in which book was published my photo as I would like to buy it. Being a 2-page photo it may be useful for the tear sheets section of my photographic website.

DN6KR0

Usage: Editorial

Media: Textbook - print and e-book

Print run: Unlimited

Placement: Inside

Image Size: 2 page spread

Start: 15 September 2014

End: 15 September 2039

All terms and rights granted as per the Alamy Preferred Vendor Agreement dated 26th January 2010 prevail. Flat rate per image, license period 20 years.

Thanks,

Stefano

ANSWER:

Hello Stefano

Sorry, but some of our customers ask us to keep their details confidential and some we like to keep to ourselves.

We have to find a balance between buyer confidentiality and your need to know where your images are used and so we’ll let you know usage information but can’t give you the buyer's details.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help.

Thanks

Many text book sales are flat rate per image so no guarantee on the size used - Alamy just give a generic description. I've had some '2 page spreads' which certainly were not used anywhere near that size.

You could try searching Google books using your pseudonym / Alamy.  Sometimes it comes up trumps.  I have found lots of mine that way.

Pearl,

I'm looking at one of your images as I type!

It's on the cover of a Collins/Nicholson 'The Four Counties & the Welsh Canals' waterways guide. It's of some narrowboats taken at Trevor, Wrexham, North Wales.

Stefano,

your DN6KR0

B8XWMH.jpg

and my B8XWMH (an arson investigator with the back of a fire truck)

are probably in the same book.

Let me know if you find it. I'll do the same. It may take while ;-)

Thanks John, I hadn't found that one.  Have a greenie.

You can do a google 'search by image' for your photo as sometimes books are uploaded as pdf files.

images.google.com

put in a low res image you wish to search.

You can also search your name at:

books.google.com

Sometimes it takes awhile for books to end up in that search.

You can also try a general Google search of the form

"Your pseudo" alamy -alamy.com -discussion

which I find sometimes uncovers publications that the book search misses. (gran and eggs perhaps, but the minus sign just means don't search for these words).

Thanks Bryan I did not know about the use of minus sign. Green from me.

A good way of searching for books is to go to Amazon and type in your name and Alamy.

Thanks. A great tip. I've just found several books that way. But ... am I missing something? ... how do you find which image has been used in the book, and where?

All I get is the book covers.

Not sure how I got there, wherever there is. ;-)

Did have trouble to get back there. (breadcrumbs probably all been eaten)

OK: here
