deleting duplicate images

new york rat

Question

Hello out there. I've been here a few months and I would like to know what method exists to delete an image once it's been put on sale, to get around the 6 month waiting period. Basically, upon occasion, right after I upload a batch I realize that I missed a little thing in retouching and there is no way to delete an image, even after it goes on sale and you delete it, it won't be removed for 6 months. What I've been doing is just uploading the image again with the tweak it needed, but then there is essentially a duplicate image on the site for 6 months, which isn't good. Is there a way around this, to delete a duplicate image without the 6 month waiting period? Thanks if anyone knows.

the other way is to write to contributor support and ask them to do it manually, by explaining and giving number to delete

That said,  i personally live with the two images on line because i don't want to give them extra work for my decision...  I reduce KW and caption to a minimum (by rules we can't remove altogether) and put a note in the "additional info" field about the better image.

For the new photo, use "Revision of Image ID ###" (old photo's Image ID) and put "Revised Image ID##" as a  tag in the old photo's tags.   People don't always look at "additional info."   I had some replaced the first time I did this, but haven't done it after that, just point the old version at the new version in a tag.  Point new at old if you want to.

Not sure if they're still inclined to do that.

For me they didn't anyway.

Perhaps you already know this, but if you delete it before it goes on sale it will be gone immediately. I don't do captions for my images until they are in the Image Manager so they are not on sale until I do that.

yeah, the only time i did it was because of system issues leading to duplication so it was ok, this is why i recommended the other approach, as they likely have more pressing issues.

one more thing about deleting image, is that buyers will not find it anymore.  I have had a few searches and sale on the actual image ID, which mean someone had noted the image and came later to buy it, if I had deleted it, even to "improve" it i possibly would have lost that sale

I create a allies and put many of my duplicate images there. Once there, I can slowly change the keywords to one or two symbols to make them unifiable.

wouldn't that make the metadata for that image not "accurate and factually correct", and be in breach of the contributor agreement:

I thought that myself, but didn't post as I wasn't sure and hadn't time to look it up again.

I always try to add even a few keywords to live news images for that reason too.
