Rare subjects

I have come across some subjects where there are very few images available, one even with no images. So my immediate thought was to upload new ones to fill that gap, but a search on all of alamy shows no search queries for past 12 months. 

 

Should I still bother here? Any thoughts?

Try different keywords? Thesaurus.

Also do an image search on Google to see if there's any regular interest.

And what John said: it could be in the newspapers; instagram; lonely planet's top 10 list; or just on fire tomorrow.

Thanks, to be honest, those were my thoughts but was interested to see how other members manage their 'rare finds'

that's ok, i took a print screen of all of OP's image today, and I'll just look for new stuff from now on.  😉

It's really hard to guess where the gaps are going to be. Remote spot in the Sahara? no, there seem to have been photographers Queued up at some point. Little oddity in Norfolk, YESSS I'm the only one seems to have bothered. Zoomed, but not yet sold. Dubious site in New England, visitor facilities even, Mine seems the only set, zoomed a few times, but not sold. But still better odds than Niagara Falls! There was a time I did really well out of top sites like Niagara Falls and Stonehenge. Some nice shots if I do say so myself, but no sales for years. Just too much competition. As Wim suggests, a good fire will limit the competition for a while, but that's a bit too much. There was a special standing stone in France I kept selling even though I wasn't happy with the lighting. Returning some years later, I discovered why it sold so well: someone had erected a ugly tea shop right in front of it. Surprised it was allowed, but it certainly gave me an edge

It so happens for three Tuesdays in a row I had to change busses directly outside one of the locations on Alamy's wanted list. The weather/light was bad all three times, but not only are several permanent things in front of it blocking the 'wanted' building, but each time, morning and afternoon, there was a big white van parked in what looked like a custom-built space right in front of the building, and I suspect it had never moved over the 15-day period.

Delivery vans do my head in! They always seem to park directly in front of whatever I want to photograph! I'm sure they follow me around - or do I follow them?

I find that they tend to appear just as the sun comes out and then leave just as it disappears behind a cloud for the next 45 minutes.

If  you have another outlet and the pictures are different enough (if you want your Alamy pics to be exclusive) why not split the images between here and elsewhere?

Or if there is a specialist magazine, you could approach them directly, though that would likely do better if you wrote an article to go with the images.

 

An Alamywhack could earn you a nice amount, could go for peanuts to a big buyer or not sell at all. Better to spread your bets if possible.

My Dubious New England Alamywhack just sold. That was about a 35 year wait for $75. This sure is a slow burn!

 

I'm not going to reveal this "dubious" site but all over North America there are little museums, zoos, or gatherings run by slightly potty individuals or groups. For the most part they are harmless, often charming, but not well authenticated. I remember a site run by a Scottish poet a few miles East of Kingston where I grew up. He had a kind of shack with a display of Aztec finds from his little farm. He was well liked and used to let The Scouts camp out on his meadow. But nobody took his Aztec tales seriously. His little volumes of poetry were fun.

 

In the UK we tend towards well documented and well funded facilities but I remember the little Witches Museum in Boscastle was a private affair. There are probably lots more but I haven't come across them
