Percentages

I had a sale today which was an ok amount (all things considered), but was then dismayed to find out my portion was only 24%.  I'm just trying to figure out where that percentage came from.

Had a few of them... it's rubbish!

Distributor gets 40%; Alamy gets 36%; we get 24%... April can't come quick enough to opt out of all distribution.

Used to be worthwhile for a few of the bigger sales but not any longer.

And I believe its seriously unethical, Alamy should at least do a 50% split on the 60% left after distributor has their share, or, to be totally fair 33.3% each party.

even worse, the 24% is not even a guarantee, since the Distributor commission is no longer part of our agreement with Alamy.  Alamy could start giving one 50% today, leaving us with 20% and it would be totally aligned with the New contract.

Another good reason to opt out of distribution when April comes around...

I have opted out of all distribution apart from Japan and the US partly also due to what seemed to me in the new contract to be very lax control over the use of our images by distributors

+1 Exactly why I opted out of distribution worldwide.

I opted back into PU a few months ago but that may have been a mistake. Will be keeping a close eye on things in that regard.

Thanks for the numbers breakdown.  I haven't had a distributor sale in a while, at least not since it was still 30% to the photographer.  I agree that it seems unethical to do the split this way, with the sellers keeping 76% of the sale.  I'm going to be reconsidering distributor sales next April as well. 🤔
