Liam Bunce
It looks very much like a Sycamore to me.
aphperspective
That's what I thought but the leaves look wrong for a Sycamore and it didn't have the usual Sycamore seeds on it. Thanks for the help. Andy

aphperspective
Wish I had left the car and driver for a close up now, just the colours caught my eye. Used to have London planes on my street and the bark was always pealing, this is smoothish.
Allan Bell
Possibly a Maple? Allan
John Richmond
I'd say Field Maple, Acer campestre, but I'd need to see a close up of the leaves to be sure. Second thoughts: Just blown the image up and a couple of the leaves look very much like a Tulip tree, Liriodendron tulipifera. Be worth comparing against that species as well. aphperspective
Thanks John and Alan, my own fault for not grabbing a close up for the sake of a minor traffic jam. Thanks to you all. Andy

TABan
Tulip tree. Also known as yellow-poplar and tulip poplar. Liriodendron tulipifera. A member of the magnolia family native to my neck of the woods. And, they can get positively huge.
