John Mitchell
A couple of dumb questions about submitting archival images. I haven't uploaded any archival images since the new image managing system was introduced. To do so, I just click on "Upload" in AIM and then "Archive" in the "Reportage/archive" column. Correct? Images will bypass QC as they always did?
Niels Quist
I haven't done any recent archival / reportage uploads recently either, but I would not be in doubt that it is the way it still works. BTW weren't archival and reportage the same tickbox before the change? Anyway it is more logical to separate them. http://www.alamy.com/contributor/how-to-sell-images/guidelines-for-submitting-images/ The guidelines seem to be the same: Reportage/archival We have an additional upload route for collections of archival or reportage images which might not meet our technical standards for regular stock imagery. We have high customer demand for this type of imagery, so if you have a collection then make sure you let us know. What do we mean by archival images?Images that are historically or culturally significant, examples include film stills, press archives and specialist collections. What do we mean by reportage images?Photojournalistic images illustrating a story but captured under difficult circumstances and might not pass our standard QC checks. Examples include photo essays or features.
John Mitchell
Thanks for the reply, Niels. So it's safe to assume that the "archival route" hasn't changed with the new system? Has anyone uploaded archival images lately?
fotoDogue
Yes Archival Upload seems to be pretty much the same as it was before. I did notice images seem to take a bit more time than they once did.

I think the processing is a wee bit slower, but there's no rush for archival images...

Wouldn't want to get demoted.
spacecadet
Haha, my last fail was an accidental archival upload to stock. Even easier in FTP- drag, drop, fail. I didn't get locked out though.
John Mitchell
Just as an aside, it seems that you can't change the "date taken" in the new AIM. I just uploaded two images taken in the 1980's, and I can't set the date. It automatically resets to the date when I scanned the images (2009). If memory serves, this wasn't the case in the old system. Or was it?

Some of my archive images still show the original date that I probably entered in PhotoShop. Others don't. I can scroll around and find an old date in AIM but as soon as I release my mouse it reverts. As a work-around I enter the date in the caption and the year in the keywords. Chuck Nacke
Most of the images that I upload are via the archival route. Never had a problem and never with the date that it was shot vs date it was scanned, I always enter all Information I can find on any archival image in the IPTC fields. Yes, that's what I've done, put an approx date in the caption. Too bad they changed the system. Perhaps it can be fixed.
spacecadet
If you click on the year you get a dropdown- back to 1800, no less, handy for all those Georgian photographs- and you then appear to be able to set the year and (presumably nominal) date. It "saves" but of course I don't know if it updates correctly.

spacecadet
I seem to be able to, and assuming today's update has happened the changes I did this morning seem to have stuck. Too bad, maybe MS can get under the bonnet for you, or do you say "hood" as well?

Too bad, maybe MS can get under the bonnet for you, or do you say "hood" as well? Would that be an Easter bonnet? Hoodies are more popular over here. Just to clarify, I can change the date using the dropdown box, etc., but then I can't save the changes in the new AIM -- i.e. the blue "SAVE" button doesn't turn dark blue. Could be Firefox I guess. I'll try using another browser.
spacecadet
I'm doing it in FF, but who knows. I do sometimes go to Chrome when something doesn't work. I do notice that AIM is liable to stop responding in whole or part, so try a reload.
John Mitchell
Just tried Chrome and reloads with no luck. Guess I'm jinxed.
Brian Humek
I haven't uploaded the archival route since the update. I always forget the minimum size (when opened in PS) for archival images. I remember it seemed quite low, but can't remember the exact minimum size. Before, when I would click upload, a message would appear at the top of the upload page stating the minumum size, but no longer does that appear. All that to ask, what is the minimum file size for archival images? Thanks, Brian
