Marc Lucas
Here is another noobie question:-) What are the pro's & Con's of opting into the distribution agreement. I received the email from Alamy asking if I wanted to opt in.
losdemas
Others will answer this question far more ably than I (I have not licensed via a distributor - and am a relative newbie myself). However, as I see it: Pros: more outlets to sell to (easier access to local markets) Cons: lower commission (and possibly lower prices in developing countries?) spacecadet
You only get 30%, but then it is 30% of something rather than 50% of nothing. The fees aren't as bad as the NU or newspaper scheme. I've had from $125 to $19 gross.
Alex Todd
I've opted out as it's all cons as far as I can see. To my mind the creator should still get their 50% cut and the rest shared between Alamy and the distributor.
CandyAppleRed Images
Alamy's cut drops to 30% but the distributor gets 40%, leaving us 30%. I've had three such sales for about $15 net.
wiskerke
When I got a $950 distributor sale last month, I was a lot more positive than before ;-) Alamy and I got the same $280 and the distributor the rest ($380). Would I have wanted it the other way around? Of course. But maybe not that realistic. wim
