Dyn Llun
20 (ok, 23) years ago we were still using blue PF60 flashbulbs 72 at a time for high-speed cine illumination. Yep, been there too. I'm talking 45 years ago now. Whole rows of them, as big as lightbulbs in floodlight reflectors lighting up the whole length of the steelworks rolling mills in Splott, Cardiff. Bulbs were so expensive we had two 5"x 4" cameras side by side so we could take two simultaneous shots, one B&W, one colour, with one set of bulbs. My job was also to unscrew the red-hot bulbs and replace them ready for the next shot. Many burnt fingers. No-one heard my swearing over the noise and heat of the rolling mill. In my previous job they still had supplies of magnesium flash powder but that was only used for experiments by then. Great fun though. Health and safety didn't come in to it but I escaped relatively unscathed.
