Turnover is up by £3 million compared to last year, but profit after all running costs etc. is down by £1.8 million (about 25%). I think that’s correct.

Yes that's correct. They also say the profit was reduced because they spent "an additional £2.1M in technology costs to support investment in the Alamy platform and to drive future revenue growth."

So that’s 12% profit from the £32 million turnover. Is that what most companies expect? It cost £28 million to run the company for the year.

Depends on the industry. Tesco ekes out 1-2% net profit now since the discount supermarkets muscled in. Games Workshop is something like 45%. No idea for stock though....

For some context pre-Crash in 2007 I think that turnover was around £17m ( and due to inflation worth a lot more than the same sum today)

All previous years figures are available here https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/03807789/filing-history. Turnover was about £15m in 2007. Gross profit was quoted at 33%. But after making a massive charitable donation, it became a net loss. (Presumably that reduced their tax bill)

Yes £17 m was 2008.

Click 'Accounts' in Mark's links and you get straight to them and it excludes the rest.

Good idea, that makes life easier, I've modified my original post to include. Thanks

Yes it was before the PA Media takeover. Water under the bridge...

...along with the loan balance waiver (£3.4m) to Video-Loft

..the £547,000 donation to the Fischer Charitable Trust (2019)

and it cost PA media £47.3m to acquire Alamy

£17m in 2008 is reckoned to be about £26.3m today

can someone dumb this down pretty please;
what was total paid to contributors in 2022?
(total contributor net $$ or ££)
same question for earlier years?
or is that not completely revealed...?
thanks in advance

It does not show how distributor sales are accounted for.  Nearly all Alamy's income is from image sales and for direct sales they keep 60%.

Turnover 2022 £32.3m up 11% from £29.1m in 2021

UK and Ireland £13.243m

Europe £7.271m

ROW £11.765m

Interesting to see that Alamy now has the same registered address as the PA, and the shed in the countryside was presumably abandoned? Does Alamy have any physical people on the ground though in Paddington? (at least some of the news desk contacts seem to be home based?) The PA annual report 2022 isn't published yet. It'll be interesting to see how Alamy is defined and integrated as per the 22 report. I the 2021 report Alamy and its subsidiaries were all classified as "image distribution", Alamy Live news is not mentioned separately anywhere (PA Ltd is classified as "news sport and entertainment information" for comparison).  So Alamy is officially just a distribution vehicle for PA. Feels like the news feed is just barely tolerated, and probably phased out eventually.
