Jeffrey Isaac Greenberg Posted May 15, 2023 Share Posted May 15, 2023 (edited) me: Lenovo P40 Yoga 14-15" since 2017; almost never an issue, but... other day dropped 3' table to hardwood floor; it slammed shut upon contact !! 😱__😱 !! energy absorption probably reason still works, thinly chipped plastic bordering top of screen... can't remember EVER dropping laptop since pre first ?1999? what new Lenovo or other reputable PC processes Photoshop the fastest...? So without doing any recent research, and in almost complete ignorance 😝, I suggest you might want to look into the Dell XPS series. I have a Dell XPS 15 which is getting to be quite old now, but was billed as a Macbook killer when it was released. Had similar or better specs and was half the price of the equivalent by Apple. Depends how much you want to spend and what size screen. Jill Morgan Posted May 15, 2023 Share Posted May 15, 2023 As long as you get one with at least 12GB RAM, you will be good to go. I have an HP, and it's great. 500GB SSD. 14" . There are lots of good laptops to choose from. I don't use it as my main computer, I have a desktop I built myself for that, but haven't had any issues with the HP. I used several Dell, Lenovo, Sony, Toshiba laptops, and nothing was more reliable and durable than Dell XPS (do not confuse with Inspiron or Vostro). Last year got 13" and 15" for daughters, they both Photoshop although obviously not as fast as a desktop of similar config (I believe you know that). As such, I would recommend XPS 13" for best mobility or XPS 15" for better productivity (giving that they install a better graphics into 15" which is not suitable for 13" due to size and heat). For 15" right now Dell offers $750 discount (the machine would cost about the same as the 13" below but has RTX 3050 with 4G VRAM [mobile version] installed). Also note that the 13" XPS will have only USB-C but you obviously can use dongles as needed. New versions vary from 100% sRGB to 100% Adobe RGB. Calibration with Spyder did not improve it much, suggesting that it was good enough from the box. A couple of questions... 1) Presumably that's working on RAW files? JPGs should be virtually instant. 2) What is the pixel size of your images? On my 2020 (pre M series) MacBook Air it takes 4 seconds to create 100% preview in Bridge of a Lumix RAW file that is 5184 x 3888 pixels using default processing in Bridge. But... if there's an xmp file with my standard preset image adjustments it takes about 16 seconds, which indicates the processing time is also strongly dependant on what image processing is being applied. My workflow circumvents this by batch producing jpgs from each RAW using a LR preset (while I'm doing something else). I can then quickly review the jpgs (with no delays and after basic processing has already been applied) and cull the JPGs (which also deletes linked xmp and RAW). PS. just noticed that left click zoom was set to 200%, so adjusting to 100% seems to cut in-sharp-focus wait time to ~10+ sec., still a bottleneck... Look at Amazon and set filter to the various Windows 10 options. We have several laptops in our household and just added a new Lenovo yesterday at a very reduced price, shipped from US to Australia with free shipping.
