Model release 'monetary value'

Recommended Posts

I have been reading the model release comments. Nothing positive there. Another thing that worries me is the 'monetary value' on the Alamy MR form. Is anyone paying models upfront, I doubt it. Interested to know what percentage of your work has a MR. Mine is 0%

Got some model released images, not many, never sold one. My models are family members, no monetary payment, sometimes I cook dinner 😆

I have some, too. Family. But I have sold a few in the few years after taking the images. Not recently, though. The trick is having them doing something without something else in the image requiring a release you can’t get.

Where are the non-positive model release comments?

You can use any MR form you like, especially useful if your submitting to other sites too.  Alamy only asks that the MR be available if needed.  You might see or use the more general "valuable consideration" instead of "monetary value".  If not paying subjects with money or goods, I suggest offering to e-mail the final shots from the shoot.  Many people appreciate pictures of themselves.  But I agree that asking for a release is not easy or convenient.

If the financial return was worth it I would make an effort but as it is it is just not worth the effort and the explanation and the potential hassle. As such, I've only ever asked friends and family 😞

I have been using the "Monetary Value" model releases for decades.  Back when I was doing annual report photography for major corporations in the U.S.  I had their legal department create the releases and they told me to give everyone who signed a release $1.00 USD.  I use to go to the bank and get a roll of One Dollar bills before a weeks worth to work.  As far as I know it is not the amount of payment, but the fact that payment happened.  Of course that would not be true in all cases, IE major advertising or celebrities
