Stan Jones
I'm just a Newbie to Alamy so still learning about this site. I have been getting a few click through's but of course it's too early to expect any downloads yet. But I was wondering how many click through's you get compared to the number of downloads you get? (That would be the number of click through's per download.) I would think this number is probably quite variable depending on the type of portfolio you have. Anybody willing to share that info? spacecadet
Do you mean zooms? About 5. But most sales are never zoomed.
Jill Morgan
Stan, it's obvious you are used to Microstock, where there you can see hundreds of views for your image and get a fair few downloads of each image. Alamy works quite differently. You will not see multiple downloads of an image. Views and zooms are only recorded if made by registered buyers. The general rule, depending on your port is usually 1 sale per month per thousand images. Alamy now has almost 100 million images, so you will be fighting to be seen in this vast ocean of images. Be sure to caption correctly, use only pertinent keywords (tags) and have a varied portfolio. It is tough to sell landscapes here and if you do wildlife, there are some awesome wildlife photographers. Alamy's major customers are editorial, not commercial, so images of people doing things sell the best. If you don't have model releases or property releases for people and things in your images then you need to sell RM or RF editorial only. Good luck. Lisa
If you look at the 'Have You Seen Any Alamy Photos' monthly postings, that would be the best place to see what sells best on Alamy.
Betty LaRue
Hi, you can't expect to license images here like you do on the pennies per download agencies. Won't happen. When you add another few hundred images, holding similars to a small number, you might expect one sale per 10 zooms. I'm sure there are others who can give you a better number on that. It all depends on the kind of images you offer as to how much in demand they will be. I didn't sell anything until I was approaching 500 images, but many of my first images really weren't great "stock" worthy images. Once I understood the concept, things picked up. When I say picked up, I'm talking a couple of sales a month until I got over 3,000 images. Some months were dry. Some here do way better than that. I suggest you offer a well rounded port of many different subjects. Landscapes are slow sellers. Good luck. Betty
spacecadet
I suggest you offer a well rounded port of many different subjects. Landscapes are slow sellers. Good luck. Betty I'd echo that. 1% of my sales are what you might loosely call landscapes but even they show the hand of man. Of course you need a lot of sales before 1% is a whole number. I would imagine yours have plenty of competition
KevinS
Stan, Your photos look good and if they are of popular destinations calendar publishers and travel magazines might license them. Covers command a higher fee than inside use, so adding vertical images would increase your chance of getting a cover. Space for text is often a requirement of a cover, especially at the top. That said, only a small percentage of my sales are landscapes, and I'm waiting for payment going on one year now for three sales to a calendar company. Stan Jones
Thanks for all the very helpful advice. I will take it to heart and try to tailor my content to what is more suitable for Alamy. I should be expanding my horizons to shoot more editorial and this looks like the best place to upload that content exclusively with Alamy. Most of my landscape work is of a very popular travel destination here in Canada but I understand that they won't be great sellers here. And thanks for pointing out, I did get my terminology wrong! I should have been asking about the number of zooms per download not click through's.
