Panthera tigris
Hi, I was reading the thread on submitting video and wondered what others are using for managing their own clip collections on their PC/Mac? I was happily using aperture (mac) to manage my clips but after its demise I have been at a bit of a loss. I tried Lightroom but found that I would have to convert most of my files for it to be able to let me see the clip contents. As I have literally thousands (SD) I did not want this - also converting increased the file size considerably but I suppose I am going to have to live with that. I also tried a library add-on for final cut but it just confused me (to be honest the way FCP handles libraries still confuses me) What do you use or would recommend for a simple user who want to catalogue about 2500 clips for own use. Thanks! Paul
Kumar
Simple editing like chopping off some frames and/or reducing the overall length of the clip and minor brightness, contrast, color correction etc are possible in a very small & functional software (free) available from http://www.squared5.com. This is perfectly OK for clip file format conversions as well ... it doesn't read .AVCHDs and Sony's XAVC-S though.
Marianne
Thanks Kumar! Is that sufficient for most editing needs or do you recommend something else too? Is there something you recommend for cataloging/organizing too or does that organize your clips as well? Like the OP, I'm considering how to locate all the .MOV files I have lurking in Lightroom and organizing them so I can start editing and uploading them. Does that or any software do ITPC/keywords or do you have to do that manually for each agency you upload to?

I'm afraid it is OK only for very basic video editing and format-changing etc. It won't stabilize yr shaky videos. My videos are still less than 5K and I organise them only manually, with basic help from PICASA.

You have to click on the "Adjustments" button hidden in the export/conversion dialogue box and use sliders for changing brightness, contrast, etc. Then you have to click the "Preview" button in order view your changes. If you don't like what you see, you have to start the process all over again -- i.e. you can't modify your initial selections. Not the best setup, but the adjustments do work. Plus, hey, the software is free.

digi2ap
I still use Aperture as Apple RAW updates still apply for both Photos and Aperture so I've not found any need to stop using it. I also use Final Cut Pro X for video which integrates well.

John all THIS is pretty straightforward, uncomplicated & fairly fast (though admittedly limited) than what one has to do in professional Abode's video-editing programmes. And, of course, MPEG Streamclip is free too. Cheers. Kumar.
