Marvin McAbee Posted December 11, 2014 Share Posted December 11, 2014 There is a $500 price cut for the D7100 and 18-140 lens at B&H, so I wonder if there is a D7200 on the way. Just wonder if others are using the D7100 and what you think. I am sot sure if it would be better to take advantage of the good price or see if there is a D7200 coming shortly. Marvin Hello Marvin, I would take the D7100. It is a nice cut on price. I think the difference between the new model and the D7100 will be not even noticable. But this is what i would do. Love this camera...HOWEVER,I kind of fear the 6 frame raw buffer. But then again,the focus is so fast AND accurate!I paid $1196 thru Amazon. I also ordered the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 lens. I guess the Sigma works well when working in low light, but the 18-140 is a good general purpose lens. I currently have the 18-105 55-300 50 1.8, and an older 18-70. I have the D200, D90, and D3200, but do not have a higher end DX body. I don't use the D200 much anymore, but the images from the D90 and D3200 sail through QC Ok. Marvin I have the D7100 and love it. I'm using the old 18-135 kit lens and a 70-300 zoom. My plan is to buy the 18-200 VRll and ditch the 18-135 - I think that will cover 95 % of use for me. Chuck Nacke Posted December 12, 2014 Share Posted December 12, 2014 Marvin, The Nikkor 18-140 is not good glass by any means. The 7100 is an interesting FX body, but why? I stayed away from NIKON DSLR's for a decade and now using 800's and a 700 and I can not imagine anything coming close to them at 100ISO or 6400ISO. BUT I still have my FUJI S5's Currently using a Tokina 16-28 f2.8, Nikkor 35-70 f2.8, Nikkor 105 Micro f4, 80-200 f2.8 and a few exceptional primes from 20 to 300. I just rec'd the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 today. I'm returning it. Too heavy for me and my copy is not sharp until f4 or better. This lens is not stabilized either. The 18-140mm is very sharp on the D7100;at least it is on mine.Check the reviews on Amazon.One of the few lenses that gets 5 stars. It's far better than the 3 24-120 f4 Nikon lenses I've owned thru the years. The Nikon 18-140mm on the D7100 is sharp and this lens is stabilized.It focused quick at night outside and inside in lousy room light. I've only had this for 2 days and have not put it thru the paces but everything so far is sharp. I also bought the Neewer flash for Nikon and it has TTL and I can use it off camera cordless without remotes w/my pop up flash. I think this flash was appx $55 and it's nice but the batteries,at least my Eneloop makes it a bit hard to close the door.Maybe I'm not doing it right... Orange Elephant Posted December 12, 2014 Share Posted December 12, 2014 The D7100 is an excellent DX (crop) camera. The camera packs a lot of features & the quality is very good. Looking at the rest of the Nikon features, the D7100 does not appear to be lacking in much to create any obvious need for improvement. What may be coming is a semi-pro level DX. Linda Posted December 12, 2014 Share Posted December 12, 2014 According to nikonrumors the Nikon D7000,D5200 and another camera have been discontinued.So I am sure some new models could be announced in the next couple of months. It seems like when they do the larger priice kits that the camera could be at the end of its cycle.
