Reimar
I'm at my wits end. I've spent two days now searching for the name of this plant. I took it at the gardens on top of Isabel de Torres mountain Puerto Plata Dominican Republic. I believe the plant is toxic or poisonous. Any ideas, tips or clues? Thanks
losdemas
Did some searching, but got me foxed, too - sorry!
TokyoM1ke
Tried: http://keys.lucidcentral.org/key-server/player.jsp?keyId=43 Had a go myself but you probably have other views of the plant that would help.
Reimar
That's an interesting tool Mike. Bookmarked. But I still don't know what this plant is. The tour guide went on and on about it, but I was too busy taking pictures.
Reimar
Thanks Philippe. I'll try that.
Reimar
I did email the tour company. But I am struck by the similar characteristics of plants in the nightshade family, like enchanters nightshade. These are certainly toxic. The alternating leave pattern and leaf shape. The prickles on leaves of some varieties. The variability in forms makes me think this is yet another variation of which there is no other picture on the web. Cribb Visuals
Your best bet is to email the Botanic Garden with a thumbnail photo: http://www.jbn.gob.do/
Reimar
Thanks Cribb. I tried that - I hope they understand English.
Reimar
Yahoo - success! Although the botanists in DR answered in Spanish - they seemed to understand my question. For anyone interested, the answer is Urera baccifera
