Popular Post geogphotos
The publisher of The Times and The Sunday Times reported record profits last year driven by strong growth in digital subscriptions and advertising revenue. Pre-tax profit at Times Newspapers rose 237 per cent to £34 million in the year to June 27, up from £10.4 million the year before. Turnover increased 5.4 per cent to £327.1 million and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation almost doubled from £26.3 million to £52.5 million. So let them start paying decent fees for their images. 2 3

spacecadet
You misunderstand. They make increased profits because they pay less for their materials. We're part of the plan. Edited March 25, 2022 by spacecadet

We're part of the plan. Not long ago newspapers could genuinely claim that they could only pay low prices for web uses because they had lost advertising revenue and their print circulations had nose-dived. That is no longer the case. Web subscriptions and advertising is making them stacks of money. Time to spread some of that around I'd say. 1
Robert M Estall
I can just see the picture editor standing up at a brainstorming session: "I have an idea; as we're up to our armpits in cash, lets up our repro rates" I can also see that pointed finger of Alan Sugar: "you're fired"

In any case it is interesting to know that the Times is now making money from web uses - a few years ago everybody was losing money. Celluloid Hero
A bit hazy but I seem to remember a few years ago Alamy reduced our commission because they were opening up in America, but hey it was going to be a great opportunity for "conned tributors". Anybody else remember that or can fill out my hazy memory?

Anybody else remember that or can fill out my hazy memory? I'm sure it worked out well for those contributors who have images that the US market wants - and generally the prices seem to be better. For many others it just meant a loss of commission. After all Alamy subsequently announced that more than 50% of its revenue came from N America. But not really relevant to this thread is it? 😄 Edited March 26, 2022 by geogphotos
