Digital and print use

The Guardian used an image of mine online and I’ve just been notified of a payment of $5.73 dollars. However this was only for the digital use and they also used it in their weekend travel supplement which I would hope would pay more. Can I expect a further payment?

Yes, print + web should be more than that. Probably not much more than 2-4x these days, though.

The Guardian is usually scrupulous about uses so it may appear as a refund/relicense, but if not let MS know.

I think they do pay a little more for print.

 

Give it a week or so if nothing pops up, then contact Alamy contributor help (assuming 3 months have passed since publication).

Finally got paid $13.27 for a quarter page in the print Travel Section. That doesn’t seem very much, how do professional photographers make a living if that’s all they get paid?

How about £00.13p for an image of mine in a headline position on the homepage of the BBC global website?

 

That was not through Alamy but illustrates what a mess we are in.

I suspect stock is a side gig for many people bar the relatively small number of full time "on the ground" photographers that are also able to capture images in a live news capacity etc and upload. For the vast majority of us with day jobs or simply without the time to dedicate to it you'd be daft to expect to make a living from stock, however one view is that generally there is an oversupply issue which is why stock prices keep falling.
