Is The Sony Minolta a mount Dead!

Recommended Posts

Is the Sony Minolta a mount dead?  All the interest lately has been with Mirrorless, although they did bring out a new a77II, but the a99 is highly discounted. :(

Good question. Only Sony knows the answer. I know someone who just bought the a77ii. It's a nice camera.

Who knows? Alamy earnings won't be paying for any new lenses any time soon.

In any case, I can buy an adapter.

FFD rules.

Sony offers quite a wide selection of A-mount lenses, so my guess is that they will continue to produce SLT cameras and expensive adapters for their e-mount lineup.

i would not be at all surprised if Sony quietly phases A-mount camera bodies out in time and concentrates in mirrorless bodies. They seem to iterate mirrorless bodies every time you look the other way. They phased out the "Nex" name and range although the current models are pretty similar but with incremental improvements it would seem

I still have some A mount Minolta lenses but wouldn't want to buy an A mount body to have them discontinued later.

I'm debating whether or not to sell my Minolta AF lenses. The Sony e-mount adapters are pricey and lack image stabilization. Might be better to buy a used SLT body that has in-camera IS. It probably wouldn't be any more expensive than an adapter.

I am too much of a pac rat, I still have 2 X700 with motordrive and lenses.  The a77II would be the way to go in the A mount lineup, but then I think I am getting into Nikon D7100 territory.  I have lenses and flash that would work with the D7100.

The A99 is coming to the end of its lifecycle, and is touted to be replaced in the next year.   It's really about a larger issue, that the DSLR and SLT is being replaced by mirrorless cameras.

Nikon and Canon could get left behind as Sony has stolen a march on them.

The A99 replacement could be a mirrorless high end camera.
