Another UK magazine search site?

Question

Readly is a new magazine site that was discussed here recently.

I remember using another one - sorry to be so vague - any ideas.

Looking for DACS search potential.

ISSN Portal https://portal.issn.org/resource/ISSN/

Though I tend to use Google a lot.

There's also sites like Ink https://ink-global.com/search/

and

ISBN https://isbndb.com/

and

ISSU https://issuu.com/

Which are handy for looking up ISSN/ISBN codes for publications

Thanks Davis

For DACS can you use a generic ISSN for a magazine or do you need the one for a particular issue?

I know of a use in Farmers Weekly magazine in March 2020 and can find the generic ISSN but not a copy of that issue.

ISSN (AFAIK) are assigned to the title only - no difference month to month unless there is a significant change in the title....Farmers Weekly becoming Farmers Monthly or Farmers Fortnightly etc.

I don't know if you're answered this question for yourself, but yes, you can.

BTW if you have any missing ISSNs, I knew of some in a mag and they didn't print their ISSN, so I emailed them and they told me it. Looking it up here

https://portal.issn.org/

hadn't worked.

Although it's there now🤔

I had a similar problem for Essence magazine (Surrey livestyle mag) and DACS advised if no ISSN was available then they would take a URL link

This was their detailed reply

"The easiest way to get the ISSN, as they can be difficult to find, is converting the barcode from the magazine. If you have a copy to hand, you can use the first 13 numbers on the barcode (it will typically begin 977, and may have a couple of digits at the end which you can ignore), you will be able to enter them into your publication History list, and it will convert it to the 8 digit ISSN.

Also, as they do appear to have an online version, you will be able to include the URL on your Part 1 Publication History list next year.

You will also be able include the total uses (number of issues, number of images) in your overall figures on the main Payback claim – Part 2 Publications."

I hope that helps

P.S. Its David 😆

Thanks for all the tips. I tried the four links suggested by Wim but can't get any matches for my pseudonym searches.

I'll keep looking for these needles in this huge haystack 🙃

Haha did try them with your name/pseudo obviously. Just with my own of course. The one with the inflight magazines is interesting.
