John Mitchell
It looks suspiciously like Japanese eggplant, but then maybe not...

Abiyoyo
Thanks to all. I would never think in a eggplant/aubergine so small and put in water.
John Mitchell
These small Japanese eggplants are quite common here in Vancouver. You see them all the time in markets and grocery stores. They can be sweeter tasting than their big cousins.
Ed Rooney
I eat Italian eggplant (melanzana) at least once a week, but have trouble remembering the English word, and almost no one speaks Italian in Little Italy anymore. Obviously when living in England they and I used the French word aubergine. Another odd culinary, cultural thing is that the Japanese seem to display food that is simultaneously graphically attractive and unappetizing. Sorry. I should always finish my coffee before posting.
