Adding a hyperlink for modified images to the original

Recommended Posts

When I do crops, I usually add the original image ID, that the crop was taken of to the caption of the image so a potential client can look at the original and evluate if they wish to crop themselves.

This currently requires a client to copy and paste the image ID from the caption of the crop (or any other modified image, ie selective color) to the search box and search for the image.

I believe there could be merrit in being able to link a modified image to its source image, so the client can easily browse to the original. Clients may have a requirement for more copy space or other colors. Such a modification would best be performed on the original rather than the modified image.

This came out of a discussion in another thread http://discussion.alamy.com/index.php?/topic/5644-selective-color/ and maybe there is  support from other contributors and/or clients for such a link?

Nice idea - and one I could have used myself on a couple of occasions - but a bit of a security risk on a publicly accessible database.  In a previous professional life I'd certainly have flagged it as a risk.

I do not understand the risk associated but very interested to know.

What would that risk be?

Inserting of links to malicious sites or exploits.  Four technically good images gets you into Alamy - and there are plenty of full sized, free images around that the unscrupulous could (do) exploit to gain access. Allowing links to be inserted could compromise the database.  The risk may be low - but it is a risk.

Maybe instead of a hyperlink, an alternative mechanism to allow us as contributors to draw attention to other images that we select within our profile could be implemented.

Essentially we want to be able to say to the buyer is "if you like this image then you might want to consider this other image because... "

Ah see and understand what you mean, John.

there would be technical ways to avoid that, two spring into mind

1) In manage images add another field named something like "unmodified image" - we would enter the Alamy ID into it, where appropriate.

Alamy can generate the actual link and could also check that it actually is a valid reference to a picture that is associated with the poster.

2) a BBcode type of thing in the caption where we enter a code before/after an image id.

the techies will probably know a fwe more option
