How to get my photos discovered?

travis

Question

Hi there!

I've been on Alamy for a while and have tried to upload about 100 images so far. Was encouraged by one photo which was sold quite early on.. but since then have not got any attention so far. Have got more success on other stock image sites. Anyone who can help provide some suggestions about this? Many thanks!

Hi Travis,

+1 to what spacecadet says

Nice pictures.

Also, some of your images are very unlikely to be found by clients, e.g.

A flower bud - Image ID: 2HM0T4E

A Caucasian woman in bikini looks out towards the sea - Image ID: 2JH4WHE

You're competing against 314 million images on Alamy alone. The captions are too short and the images are very generic. You're much more likely to sell a plant image if you specify the species - common and latin names, which month it is, location etc. The beach photo, where is it? Are you trying to illustrate a concept, e.g. summer, beachwear...? Many Alamy clients will be doing specific searches.

Travis, by clicking on the number next to images, you can view anyone's images in the Forum. You can also see their caps and tags. Getting an idea of what others do is helpful.

A basic mistake new contributors make is waiting to see how they do with a small selection of images before submitting more. Now days, a large portfolio is important. But . . . you don't want to put lots of similars or pointless tags.  Buyers are not looking for picture stories and so they're not interested in your collection. They want a photo that illustrates a certain point.

Good luck!
