London, UK, 20 July 2021: The NHS Covid app on a smart phone shows a count-down to the end of self-isolation triggered by contact with a person infected with coronavirus. Business Minister Paul Scully had said that self-isolation was optional if pinged by the app if businesses were facing staff shortages, but Downing Street has said that employers should not encourage workers to ignore the app's warnings. Contact from NHS Track and Trace is a legal requirement but notifications from the app are not compulsory. Anna Watson/Alamy Live News
