MMiller
To operate an action in PhotoShop, you need to select the particular action, and then select the "Go" arrow below to make it actually perform- a two step process. Surely a trivial request, but it would be nice to make this a 'one step' operation. That is, simply clicking the action itself automatically applies that operation. Maybe there could be a little arrow on the each action itself, so when you click that particular arrow, the effect is to not only select that action, but also activate it simultaneously. This could add up to much time savings when working on myriads of photos. Maybe such a setting already exists?
MDM
You can assign a function key to an action which is then a single movement - just select the action, click the options icon on the top right of the panel and a list will appear one of which is Action Options - very simple. Or you can create a droplet from an action or set of actions which allows you to drag a file or batch of files onto an icon on your desktop. Use Photoshop online search if you want to find out more about droplets.
cbimages
As per MDM's advice, just assign a function key, with or without alt or ctrl. Example, when I want to save a TIFF as JPEG for Alamy, I just press F3, if the image is also going to Age, then I re-open and press F2.
MMiller
Thanks, that's a nifty little trick.
Vincent Lowe
Am I missing something here? Once I've recorded an Action I always change the Actions panel to 'Button Mode' then it performs just as you wish - a single click on a 'button' and away you go. MMiller
Awesome Vincent! Switch to Button Mode. I just tried it. That's even better.
Vincent Lowe
Glad to be of service...! Incidentally, on the subject of one click actions, I've recently bought a programmable keypad - Cherry G84-4700 (£26.99 from ebuyer in the UK). http://tinyurl.com/kaucqgt Now I can access the things I use most often, like shadows/highlights, hue/sat, lens correction, etc., with just a single press of a button. It's easy to program - just select the key sequence from a diagram of a keyboard on the screen or input directly from your PC keyboard. The programming is held in a file so you can use it with other software by saving a different set of commands in another file.
