In my experience both as a photographer and as a competitor paying motor sport photography is very hard to get into. The specialist press is  oversubscribed with specialist photographers. The non specialist press has a very limited use and obtaining the correct passes that are all but essential to get the money shots are all but impossible to obtain.

I have the passes, thats no problem... and most of my work I sell direct.. I was just wondering how these images perform here.. obviously not too well by the sounds of it lol

I've done a bit of tennis - my only sales have been to and Indian book and a couple of Serbian websites - you can probably imagine how profitable it has proved.

 

haha I'd say it would have barely covered your take away latte during your break...

I get the impression that the Alamy sales team is much more proactive where Live News images are concerned, e.g. I was once asked if I had any more from a shoot,  but if you are successfully selling direct there is perhaps less of an incentive to use an agency? 

 

I don't normally shoot sport, but once stumbled across a cross country race and positioned myself amongst the long lenses of the press. My Live News picture got nowhere as such, but subsequently sold for a reasonable fee.
