spacecadet
I find myself with a replacement computer with a built-in monitor and no outlet for a second display. Does anyone have experience of USB graphics adapters?

TokyoM1ke
There's no way that they'll have the bandwidth that you need for a good high resolution display, even with USB 3. You will be disappointed. Are you sure there's no way of taking an internal connection external? What make and model and might be able to point you in the right direction? spacecadet
HP Touchsmart 300. There appears to be a spare PCI-e Minicard connector but apparently no graphics cards were made for that connector.
TokyoM1ke
You can almost certainly find a card for the PCI-e connector - that has to be your best option.
spacecadet
It's labelled 'minicard'- that's not the same as pci-e, is it?
TokyoM1ke
I think that it's the same, just the size and pin arrangement of the card. You'll have to find a minicard to fit the slot, as I understand it. I suggest that you speak to someone who knows what they're about. If you're in the UK then you might give Novatech a try on the phone - www.novatech.co.uk - I've always found them to be knowledgeable and helpful. spacecadet
Thanks for the help , Mike, it seems that the socket in question is for wireless, bluetooth and the like and being only a x1 type has no more bandwidth than USB2 but I will try novatech.
