Ashish Agarwal
Interesting case. Photographer's photo was stolen from Twitter feed and used commercially by the big G, and the follow-up case earned compensation of $1.2 million http://mashable.com/2013/11/23/photographer-lawsuit-twitter/

Ashish Agarwal
Thanks Alex. The details in the link you provided do show that challenging such a misuse itself takes a lot of guts and effort, and can be very expensive in terms of legal costs. Richard Baker
The quote I disliked most was from one of Getty's counsel team: "I hope he (Morel, the photographer) enjoys his notoriety" - as if he's won for the celebrity of it all. In reality, he fought as the David against the industry Goliaths for nearly 4 years which, for those taking on even the smallest infringement claims know, that is a long period of sleepless nights. The pictures were extraordinary and the Big Boys thought they could wipe the floor with what they considered to be a developing world photographer and his hick legal team so good luck to him. He plans to invest his payout in local work and to tell the story about his fight against copyright crime. As Alex says, EPUK (and the blogger Jeremy Nicholl) gave excellent accounts throughout the case. Background here: http://bit.ly/IeU1D1 Richard. Paulstw
Every court action for this type of thing will make reference to this case. "if they won, so should we" Could be the shake-up the big boys needed.
