Im sure you have looked at the NUJ website for possible benefits, these include (if London based) regular talks and meetings, recourse to legal advice if needed, and supply of an official Press Pass recognised by the Association of Chief Police Officers of England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland. The card recognises the holder as a bona fide newsgatherer. I regularly shoot at London based events and apply for event media & press passes. My NUJ card and accreditation is of great benefit.
